Yeah I knew that I had to go through that kind of test but it sucks having your account in bad standing for no apparent reason and having a few features removed.

Anyway I've talked with him and he decided to release the claim because he said that he didn't know how it worked and he didn't know what he was doing.

Thats really weird. Well at least you got it resolved and can put it behind you. One time on an old channel of mine I was hired to edit a music video for a couple different bands and I was asked to put it on my youtube so they can share it on their social media. A few years later I get a copyright strike, turns out they joined some music network that scans for their music being uploaded and such. I really don't care about the video, I was hired by someone else to edit the video for the band, so it really doesn't matter much to me. But yeah just some weird stuff happens with copyright stuff like that.

I'm glad it worked out for you lol! Although I wonder, If you did go through the copyright school thing then would you have gotten your channel back in good standing? Or did he have to revoke the claim for your channel to go back to good standing?

Well, I had to go through that test(pretty easy) so I could get my channel back(I couldn't upload without doing that), so once I did it I could upload new videos but this didn't put my account back to good standing, to get back those few features lost you either have to ask the guy who striked you to retract it or you have to wait 6 months for it to expire.
1 strike= you lose some features(and account in bad standing)
2 strikes= account suspended for 14 days(still in bad standing)
3 strikes= channel termination after 7 days
Each strike expires after 6 months

Glad it got resolved, even with permission it can sometimes be a bit of a grey area to work with someone else's property because of situations like this. I wish creators would keep a track of who they've allowed to use their content so that they're not unfairly penalised.

Didn't know what he was doing? That's pretty unlikely.

Now that he has released the claim, I would take the video down and no longer communicate with him. You cannot strike a channel by accident. This is not a person you want to have any leverage over your channel at all.

Artists are unpredictable and usually crazy. Got to be careful out there. I just compose my own music with a kazoo most of the time.
