SO confused about 'legacy' accounts

I have a couple of old YT accounts that I can no longer access. (VERY annoying)
One I remember the pw to, the other I don't & I want to try deleting them.
I'm reading stuff about "linking", NOT being able to link if I don't have passwords, gmail...etc. Help.

Is this deliberately confusing?
 
To be honest, I'm not even sure. I don't *think* that's what I've done. All I do know for sure is- I had 2 or 3 YT accounts I made before the big changes with Google.
