I have a new gaming channel and was wondering whats the best video format I can use to get good quality but a smaller file size when uploading? At the moment my 8-9 min vids are around 700mb 720hd

Yeah that's pretty big. Check your bitrate it's probably way too high:

What screen recording software are you using?

My videos aren't gaming - they are screen recordings of powerpoint presentations, so bear that in mind, but I can get a 720p HD 30 minute video with audio down to 90 mb Obviously gaming vids would be bigger, but shouldn't be that big IMO

I use camstudio screen recording software (free software) with the excellent Xvid CODEC to record the raw .avi and I use audacity to record the raw audio as a .wav file. Then I use Windows MovieMaker for editing and I output it to a 720p HD WMV file using an HD profile.

If you want more info about the best settings for camstudio, let me know.

I would try downloading and using this software called Handbrake. There should be a bit more about it and how to use it in the articles section of the forum. :)

Use handbreak for encoding your RENDERED(already) videos so it will be compressed to little to no quality loss.:)

Check out your bitrate. I'm getting that size if I have 14mins and above but not 8-9mins.

What's your rendering settings? That's huge for a 720p.o.O

What software are you using?

If you're using Vegas Pro 12, use Mainconcept MP4 and use the preset Internet 720p.

I am using the Elgato HD Recorder set at best settings for a PS3 which is limited to 720p for its Blu Ray protection. I have dropped the size down to better which does reduce the size and keeps the quality but its still in the GBs for a 10min + video
