Silent Keyboard! HALP

Hi Guy, I am Buttons.

At the moment, I play a lot of indie shooters. Which require a lot of clicking on my keyboard.
Of course the clicking comes through, and get recorded.

I was hoping some one could point me in a direction to a more quiet keyboard.

Thanks!

What kind of keyboard do you have, and what microphone do you use?

I am currently using the Thermaltake TT Esports "Pro Gaming" Keyboard.

My Mic is a Blue SnowBall

Try going to Newegg and looking up "silent keyboard." Lots of cheap ones that seem to be what you're looking for. Try looking up reviews of the keyboards before you buy them, though.

Otherwise, the only thing I could recommend is getting a boom arm and shock mount for your microphone to filter out vibrations if you're having issues with the actually boom sounds made from your keyboard.

Where is your microphone positioned?

I ask because microphones operate based on the force of volume that hits their diaphragm. If the mic is on the desk anywhere near the same distance from both you and the keyboard, of course it will pick up keystrokes more noticeably because your voice isn't hitting with enough force, causing you to have the gain higher than it needs to be and thus picking up clicks. Most mics are best at around 6-8 inches from your face.

My keyboard is behind the mic, around 6 inches from my face. I think its because its directly behind it mihght be the problem. as it is closer to the keyboard than my face.

Lean back in your chair a bit, pick the mic up and keep it closer to you. Turn the gain down, talk louder than normal and type with your other hand while recording.

If the problem is substantially less as it is likely to be, buy a mic stand.

Well normally any membrane keyboard is going to be pretty quiet. If you want want to have mechanical keyboards I would recommend talking a look online by googling "Different MX switches" and search different ones that exist as there is many types for different uses. If I recall red mx's are designed for quietness and blue are loud and tactile. I may be wrong so do you research :D

Razer Deathstalker is a "silent" keyboard with low profile keys. Think an apple keyboard only that it lights up green and is made specifically for gaming. If you have your audio set up right it shouldn't be picked up by your microphone.
