Basically, if you are a Gaming channel, stick to recording gameplay. It is also good to experiment with different video genres and see if your audience likes those as well. If you have diversity you won't be bored, but you also don't want to have "unwanted" diversity, stuff that your audience dosen't watch.
An example is, my channel is a Gaming channel, and always has been, but lately i have tried some different types of videos: i made a 20-30 second funny skit, and i also started a Q&A series. These things are obviously in a different genre even if the skit was talking about games or all the questions in my Q&A were about gaming. And the good thing is that my audience loved all these things that i did, you could even say they got more views than most of my gaming content.
So keep to a set genre, but also experiment with your audience to see if they like other genres as well, to keep the diversity
