Should small YouTubers put ads on their videos?

I was wondering if ads on videos are unattractive? I was wondering because I just started putting ads on my channel. The main reason I did it was because I wanted some extra money to increase the quality of my video and so I can buy more games and review them on my channel. Please let me know if it was a mistake and if I should remove the ads or leave them there.

Well, it'sokay as long the ads are not 30 seconds longer.

I make about $4 a month myself, and I don't even put ads in every video. I leave it out if it's too short and its not a review or a pokemon video.

If you're just starting out, nah. I don't recommend it. You won't get anything from it anyways, not until you start getting more views

There is unconfirmed rumor that monetizing your videos can help at least a little bit with their exposure to YT audience - it kind of make sense - why YouTube should promote videos it does not make profit of!?
So I think it is better to monetize them. In anyway most of the views will be without ads.

Congratulations- most of the people in this thread are giving money to Google, lowering how much ads pay overall, and possibly losing fans in the process.

YouTube doesn't pay you until you reach $100. If you're not going to reach that within a few months, there is no reason to put ads on your videos.

At the beginning, every view counts. Why risk losing any because of an ad?

I would, however, recommend going through all of the steps needed in order to monetize your videos (join and link AdSense, etc)... doing everything needed except actually clicking the monetize button. This way, if any of your videos happen to take off unexpectedly, you could quickly turn it on.

I'm a big proponent of doing everything you can to build an audience first.

When I started YouTube, we couldn't even monetize our videos. YouTube would contact us and ask if we wanted to monetize a random video. Well, I say random because I have no clue how they would pick a video they wanted to monetize.

After a long time, YouTube finally allowed me to become a full partner and I could pick and choose which videos I wanted to monetize and which I didn't.

Even then, I wouldn't monetize every video. I knew which videos would get more views and I felt confident that my audience would tolerate the ads beccause they wanted to see the video.

I knew which other videos wouldn't get a lot of views, so why bother monetizing them.

I recommend the same thing today to smaller channels. Do not monetize and watch your analytics to see which videos are gaining traction. Those are the ones that you should monetize.

If you focus on chasing pennies, you could be missing out on the future dolllars.

I monetize simply because it makes me look and feel more official. If someone can't watch a 5 second, skippable ad, or a 15 second, non-skippable ad, why are they even watching my content anyways? You can only get an ad once every seven minutes (per. Tim Schmoyer of Video Creators) anyways so it's like if you're too anxious to get an ad over with, how can I expect you to fully indulge in my content and pull out every message possible from what I produce? If you can't watch an ad, you most likely can't watch a video. Pro monetization because I just think people think like "oh s**t, damn he's mad official he has ads on his videos, YouTube must like him" and it makes people take your more seriously. It's like if you workout in a shirt in the gym or a brand shirt in the gym. Regardless of how big the brand is, it's still a brand and people are going to look at you differently and probably think you're more serious about working out than others.

But, then again, this is only my opinion.
