Should i upload late at night?

I wouldn't really mind when you upload, most people that are big genuinely have schedules they go by, I would just get them out when you can daily, and it should not be a problem :)

I do try to make videos based around 4 games, and change which games these are based on what ones are out. I have the games i will be playing in my banner so people should know what to expect. I do understand that sticking to one game would get a specific audience thou, but i want a variety of games. thanks for the lenghty answer :D

You're then doing a common mistake by gaming channels. Don't just do a specific game(s) but a SINGLE genre. If you limit yourself to a specific game(s), you've just straightjacketed yourself. ALL games have their day and then fade away. If you've tied yourself to them, you doom your channel. Instead pick a genre and only do games that are in that genre.

Viewers subscribe to SINGLE topic channels. Your channel might not be a single topic channel but they subscribed to you because of ONE of your topics. If they like FIFA games, they could very well not be interested in your single-person-shooter (FPS) games or vice versa. And when the viewer gets too many off-topic videos (off topic for them), they will unsubscribe. Never give them a reason to unsubscribe. It can also explain why some of your videos get more views than others. If your FIFA gets the most views and your FPS videos get a lot less, that tells you that your subscribers subscribed to you for your FIFA videos and not your FPS.

"But I like playing a variety of games!" might be your come-back. My reply would be, "Most people do but most don't subscribe to variety channels." Find a niche and make it your own. If you do FIFA games, watch all the other FIFA YouTube channels and try to figure out a niche they're not servicing. An approach to the game. It can be serious or funny. You need to stand out from all the other FIFA channels. If you don't, you will have a hard time gaining traction. Spend the time. Watch your competition. Do the necessary competition analysis. Find a niche and make it yours.

Hey Jack,
What's your take on people who already have a consistent viewer and sub base that is there for the channels personality? Whats to say that someone with 100,000 subs can't do some variety every now and then?
Just wondering in these cases if it would be acceptable.

Nice advice, but i still haven't found my niche :/ I am kind of turing towards fifa videos but two of my witcher 3 videos got 650 and 500 views which is a lot for my channel. I guess i will have to experiment with diffrent games and see which ones don't work. I doubt i will ever play just one game thou, and I will try to continue making youtube/gaming tips videos

So when you watch the "Game of Thrones", it is then totally cool that the producers do a James Bond adventure once in a while, right? No? Why not? Think about it. If variety was EVER a good idea, why do successful TV shows NEVER do something too out of left field. Sure, they might do an episode from a different perspective but not truly outside of their little universe. Once upon a time, variety shows did succeed on TV but that was during its "golden age" when no one knew how that medium would work, if it would work at all. The closest thing we have today to a variety TV show is American Idol, which is having its final season right now.

The reasons why YouTubers with large followings do variety is because of a number of reasons. None of them good.

1) Uneduated. Reading an introductory book on marketing would solve most of these problems.

2) Unprofessional. Professionals do what they do best. Amateurs believe they can do anything. Professionals work to perfect what they do. Amateurs wander all over the map. Professionals work on their reputations. Amateurs don't understand or care about their reputation. Professionals seek to be the go-to person for their specialty. Amateurs are surprised and flattered that people turn to them for any answers. Professionals are happy with a fat bank account. Amateurs seek more "meaning" in life. Professionals can separate their professional life from their private life. Amateurs view what they do for a living as who they are.

3) Boredom. They didn't think through their channel in the first place. 90% of entrepreneurs who worked less than six months on their business plans fail within five years whereas 90% of entrepreneurs who worked six months or more on their business plan succeed. No, the YouTubers instead made some videos, those videos took off, and now they're stuck doing what they never intended to do for a long period of time. They didn't really look in the mirror and find out what they're most passionate about OR, just as likely, find out that they're not really passionate about any single thing. So now they're bored and because they're uneducated and unprofessional, they do variety to make their show fun again for them. Not their viewers. Who cares about their viewers. It is all about them ... which leads us to...

4) Ego. They think they are the channel. They buy into the idea that people watch SOLELY because of their personality. "I can do anything and my fans will eat it up." In other words, they have a problem walking through doorways because of the size of their egos. This is Shaquille O'Neal doing rap songs, Mick Jagger starring in movies, and Matt Damon lecturing us on teacher wages. What happens to celebrities is that they surround themselves with an entourage that only tells them glowing things about themselves and they then start believing their own press releases. They start thinking they are so brilliant that to deny the unwashed masses exposure to their full brilliance is a crime against humanity. Sure, there are examples that show this isn't 100% the case. Frank Sinatra was a great actor and Chaim Witz (a.k.a. Gene Simmons) is a great financial adviser, but those are the RARE exceptions. Don't use RARE exceptions as the excuse to do so. That's just ego talking. That is you thinking YOU are one of those RARE exceptions because you've had some little measure of success.[DOUBLEPOST=1443040356,1443039531][/DOUBLEPOST]

First, there is no rush, right? You don't HAVE to make YouTube videos, right? No one will die if you don't, right? Okay. Take a moment. Look in the mirror. Think this through. Talk to friends, family, teachers, and other YouTubers. Talk to us here. If you just do it to do it, you can end up with a successful channel that holds little long-term interest for you and that will quickly turn into a Hell for you. Nothing crushes a soul more than being forced to grind out videos you don't want to produce anymore. To be creative when you've lost the spark of creativity for that. See my reply above to Brantman19 for more on this same issue.

As for 650 and 500 views being a lot, sorry, but those aren't. A search engine could have just snagged you. Don't read too much into those viewer counts. Don't do something simply because it is popular or it gets a lot of views. This is your life you're talking about. If you want to be a full-time YouTuber, your channel is a major life decision. Treat it that way. Think it through. Ponder it. Discuss it with all those around you. Decide wisely!

I am going to midnight launch of fifa 16 tomorrow, and am going to upload a video at like 1:30. Most of my views come from the UK and USA, and not sure if i should upload as many of my subs may not watch it. However, its better to get a video out there sooner rather than later. Could I get some advice plz?

I'm not affiliated with them, but I use Tubular Labs (free to sign up) and they show you a suggested timetable of when to upload (I've attached mine)

I just wanted a little advice on when to upload my fifa video, not life advice! I am just a small youtuber who wants to try out diffrent games on his channel, and doesn't want to sick to 1 game. A lot of youtubers have their channel based around 1 game and play others now and again and that is what i am trying to do. 650 views is a lot btw as i had under 10 subs at the time, and even if i was lucky in the search engine or whatever it gave me a lot of confidence and it kind of gone now cos it seems like u are criticising my channel :( Ur also kind of saying i can't grow on youtube because im sticking to 1 game, and i know i won't be the rare exception but i can aim to be which will lead to success i hope. Not sure if u meant it or not but I lost a bit of confidence for yotube and my channel in general now... thanks for the reply anyway

While I agree with paragraph 4 of your post I have to say your whole post entirely was very frustrating to read.

I understand your analysis of dissecting the popular YouTuber's choices in variety, because it seems that most of them today create these awful "variety" videos just to spew crappy content out into the world to stay relevant. It seems though that you have some personal "vendetta" with the more popular YouTube makers and are taking it out on these new creators. They came to you seeking answers and guidance and instead of trying to positively provide them with the information they can use to better themselves, you came at them with brutal opinions.

The beauty of Youtube is that it's NOT television, we DON'T have the restrictions of having to stick to a script, or keep a cohesive story flowing, as creators we can do whatever the heck we want to do!

With that being said, you're correct in that it's very good to understand marketing if you're trying to make it far in the world of YouTube, but it's definitely not going to get you to the top. YouTube is not about formula's and strategies, it's about being human and presenting your creations to the world. Look at Pewdiepie, it wasn't business strategies that got him to the top.

Also...

1) Uneduated.

You'll find threads go all over the place here.

I am just a small youtuber who wants to try out diffrent games on his channel, and doesn't want to sick to 1 game. A lot of youtubers have their channel based around 1 game and play others now and again and that is what i am trying to do.

One genre is not one game. Genre is a category of games, such as horror, FPS, strategy, etc.

650 views is a lot btw as i had under 10 subs at the time, and even if i was lucky in the search engine or whatever it gave me a lot of confidence and it kind of gone now cos it seems like u are criticising my channel :(

You asked for advice. That the advice wasn't what you wanted to hear shouldn't get you down. Did you only want encouragement?

Ur also kind of saying i can't grow on youtube because im sticking to 1 game, and i know i won't be the rare exception but i can aim to be which will lead to success i hope.

This is where you get confusing. Just above you said you don't want to stick to one game and now you're saying you are.

Not sure if u meant it or not but I lost a bit of confidence for yotube and my channel in general now

Reality isn't always what you want it to be. Part of the benefit of these forums is getting reality checks.
