After Effects is for... well effects, color correction & particles. I only use it for intros mainly. Premiere Pro is more for Video Editing.

Honestly, I don't see how anyone can stay with sony vegas. I use Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro for editing. After Effects is more for creating special effects, and for motion graphics. Everything you need for editing is on Premiere. Premiere Elements is less expensive, and has all the basic tools including some decent templates you can apply for quick editing. Premiere Pro lets you do more than Elements but is more expensive.

People usually edit their video in FCP/Premier/Vegas or etc.
And add effects in after effect.
They dont use after effect for video splitting

did u get ur sony vegas pro free?[DOUBLEPOST=1366742170,1366742095][/DOUBLEPOST]It's definitely the effects thing, I've had some awesome ideas for my videos but I haven't been able to do them on Vegas, and keep getting told that it's for After Effects only hahaha..
So it might be something I'll mess around with before I start using it for my main videos. Might do some effects tests and ask for opinions on the forums?

You can buy them on adobe's website, amazon, ebay, or at best buy. They are a bit expensive, but they are well worth it if you are serious about editing. You can get the basic editing software from adobe on amazon for under USD$60 if you get a slightly older version. For example you can get adobe premiere elements 10 or 11. They are good for editing and basic effects.
