Should I Remove Our Best Performing Video?

FunWithTheBugs

I've Got It
Hi All! So a while ago I created a video that has nothing to do with what my channel is about. We are a kids toy channel but at the time I was mixing in family vlog stuff and did a video on how to setup your own saltwater fishtank. Since then, I have removed all the vlog videos but kept the the 1 video of the saltwater tank because it was doing pretty well.

Right now the video has over 100,000 views and is way ahead of any other video on our channel. So while it is good for stats as far as watch time minutes, views and collecting a couple of dollars I think it might be hurting us as anyone subbing because of it won't be interested in anything else we do.

Any thoughts on this? I think if I had other videos performing this well it wouldn't be a big deal but it will be a big hit to my total stats by removing it but maybe will help my channel by doing so?

Appreciate any input. Been struggling with this for a while now as views have been pretty bad lately.

I would keep it on there honestly. It is your channel you can post whatever videos you want. Maybe straying from the channel theme a little bit here and there is a good thing. Also if it is still earning you some decent views no sense in messing with that though.

Honestly I don't think it hurts to leave it up, anyone finding your channel through that video that isn't interested most likely wouldn't stumble across your channel anyway, however someone could see it, check out your other stuff and find that too that normally wouldn't have found your other videos. While the number of people doing that may be small, I think it's still a boost, and worth leaving up!

We'll the issue I have a lot of subs coming from that video compared to our other ones just due to all the views is gets. Most of them are going to be dead subs effecting my sub to view ratio of new videos as well as over views to subs for the month.

So I don't know if I am just digging myself in a deeper whole every day I leave it up from a analytics standpoint but it is so hard to remove a video that has over 100,000 views. LOL

I also know the video has been helpful to a lot of people.

I find it kind of difficult people watching just one video to rush subscribing before checking channel's other video, stuff, info, etc. So you might worry without reason for a good video. It is like worrying for your dog barking at night at a burglar that (the dog) will wake the neighbours! I mean that both the dog and the video are doing their job right, no reasons to worry on minor issues! :) :p Perhaps you can modify the thumbnail declaring that this is an one of a kind video in a kid toys dedicated channel.

I also know the video has been helpful to a lot of people.

That counts the most I think... :)

If people subscribe to your channel without checking out what you are really about nowadays, that's on them.
Many YouTubers would like to have a successful video to get people to their channel whether it's what they are doing now or not.

Meh I wouldn't worry about dead subs. I think my view from subs and non subs ration is funky but I think thats common. like 1% of my views come from subs. I figure that is mostly because of my genre though.

I see where you are coming from. I checked out your channel and it suffers from the "one trick pony" syndrome. You have one video in the 6 digit range, and the next one is in the low 5 digit range. But, looking at your most recent videos they do not preform well at all (mine don't either... so we got that in common!). As such I would leave it. It is what you call a carry video. A video that carries your channel, and probably still to this day makes the most amount of money. I personally hate the fact that a SAAB review is the #1 video right now. But, I have others that outperform it behind the scenes, and hopefully that Saab video will be overtaken by another one. I would be a complete idiot to delete it though, it is a 6 digit video, I only have one other one that is there, the next one after that still has a decent clip to go to get there.

Overall channel watch time is very important how YouTube treats you. Don’t touch that video!! I also wish all my videos were watched equally as I work equally hard on all of them but t’aint to be.

Looks like you should keep the video..
The style and subject of your Aquarium video is not too remote from the overall family fun style of your channel
I would even make some more family oriented aquarium fun "How to" videos.
