Should I.. or Should I not..

Should I or should I not enable the monetization yet.
First of all I'm gonna come off like a giant douche, but please try to be more descriptive in your thread title. It just makes it easier on everyone.

Secondly I'd wait on the monetization for the same reasons people are saying (alienating viewers, etc). On the other hand, I'm currently looking into whether there is a correlation between 'suggested videos' and videos that are monetized vs non-monetized. Obviously if we found out that monetized videos rank higher with their algorithm than non-monetized then monetized would be the way to go. That might be a far fetched theory but it's always something I've wondered about and I'm doing my own research and talking to a lot of people about it to see if it's even a remote possibility.

I wouldn't if I were you... not at least until you have about 500 views on each video :) I mean, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? Or at least, don't fix it until needed ;)

I wonder if YouTube favor videos with ads though in searches? I mean that is how they make their money so it would make sense

Well this is part of what I'm trying to ascertain, but I would imagine search would be less likely to favor monetized videos since relevance is of such paramount importance when it comes to search results. "Suggested videos" on the other hand used to be called 'Related videos'....now why are merely suggested videos, and not necessarily relevant to the video watch page on which they appear. That suggested area also contains 'recommended for you' videos that do not seem to have any relevance to the content in the current video at all. So that is where I believe monetization could weigh into the algorithm's decision on which video to place where.

Who knows, it may just be a conspiracy theory on my part, but logically why would Youtube want to promote non-monetized videos over monetized ones?

Exactly. Makes sense

If the content is good, and people want to watch it, a few adverts won't deter them.

They can easily click past them.

I would turn it on - it's not going to drive away viewers, IF the stuff you put up is what they are after.

At some point you're going to want to. At this juncture it's not like you're actively losing earnings by holding off. The current view threshold you're sustaining is turning out fractions of a cent. I'm not sure if Google pays out >$100.00 through adsense. A professor I had said she didn't get paid until she hit a hundred, but that was for a blog.

Anyway, as you go on, your views will increase, and some older content will accrue more views. So it's kind of like a snowball effect. When you're seeing larger growth then you'll want to enable monetization. At first it's probably going to suck (at least for awhile) but eventually you can earn more as your viewerbase grows.
