Should I keep YouTube a secret?

I only tell my close friends, because they all kinda do YouTube too, and they support me. However, if someone else finds out without me telling them, I don't really care, I just look at it as more exposure :)

I did not just keep my channel a secret, I never even mentioned any personal details including my name, age or location on my channel when I made videos, I did not want anyone to know that I made videos for YouTube.
To this day only my close friends and family were aware that I made YouTube videos lol

Although I have made videos in the same style as my YouTube videos for college assignments and people seemed to really enjoy them, one of my classmates even told me that I should have started a YouTube channel :bounce:

You should definitely tell people about your channel, they might just love it! There is a chance people will make fun of you but in some way they're also supporting you to keep making videos as they probably find some enjoyment in it and just like joking around, don't worry about it!
It will definitely help you grow your channel and the bigger you become the smaller chance that you will be made fun of ;)

If family or friends know my channel, they can contact me any time. I do not want that. Also, you risk having friends that try to help you out by constantly clicking on your ads. I do not want to introduce another element of risk.

Personally I shared it with all my friends and family as soon as I set my channel up, but I guess it's up to you really. My only concern was that I never swear in front of my family at all and I wanted the ability to just say whatever I want on my channel so that put me off a little bit at first... but then I just thought f**k it!

I don't keep it a secret because I am not ashamed, due to the nature of my videos. People already know my personality so they know the type of content I'd pump out (political, and ww2 history).

I kept my Youtube a secret from family because they are strict (can't have them knowing I have a tattoo even though I am an adult etc)
They are so strict I never even asked my parents about sexual education LOL. They still think I think babies fall from the sky. O_O

Hell yeah man, go for it, spread the word! YouTube requires the utmost patience, and most important of all, the ability to spread the word subtly. You seem like you don't really need the help, but it's always good to exhaust all your options.
