should I have a schedule?

I Love YTtalk
I'm getting more busy with other stuff related to my film business and I personally am wondering if a schedule is needed anymore. I ask because YouTubers like Miranda Sings doesn't have a schedule and neither does some of the others I follow. They do usually upload videos 3 or 4 times a month.

I did notice that if the yotuuber has a vlog they usually do that weekly and that's a schedule.

What you all think?

I also don't see how I can stick to a schedule either. I do my comedy on the side for now and my professional film business is my main focus along with other part time I use to make income. I hoped I could make YouTube full time but that's just not happening.[DOUBLEPOST=1503902998,1503846819][/DOUBLEPOST]Can anyone offer me advice?

Short answer: Yes. The long answer has three parts.
Firstly, the algorithm seems to favor regular content, so if you consistently upload once or twice a week on the same day, Youtube might pick up on this. Don't compare scedules with big Youtubers, they often have such a big audience that a bit of inconsistency won't hurt them.

Secondly, your subscribers will know when to look at your channel! Some might not get the notification, but still know when you will have something up, or just lurk around on your channel page (if they really like your content) if they know you upload every Friday. Audiences like to know when to expect content and they like it regulary!

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, it helps you! If you consistently force yourself to make content, you won't slack of. If you ever have a busy week, but you know you need to have a video up on Friday, you can prioritize and plan. It will help you greatly :)

Hope this helped a bit!

Always go with a schedule, this way you are consistently uploading new content. You don't want to take any "break" when starting out on YouTube, that's the easiest way for a channel to start falling off.

If you're serious about Youtube, absolutely. All the Youtube gurus talk about consistency as probably the most important factor in growing a channel. Plus it stops you from slacking off (hopefully!).

I have a schedule. Some channels I follow have a schedule / some dont.
I think if I didnt have a schedule, it wouldnt effect me too much.
I keep to a schedule so I can continue to build on my back catalogue.

Well this is frustrating. I just posted a banner with my new schedule but I haven't had time to make any new videos and follow it. Some popular YouTubers never have a schedule.

Consistent content is a must, I tried stopping for 2 weeks due to certain outside commitments my channel dropped a lot during that period. Especially when you are starting out, its best to be producing consistently. Also have a schedule helps even when the notifications don't work as your subs roughly expect new content according to your posting schedule.

i can't have a constant schedule. Here is why.

I work 3 jobs. 1st job is everyday from 9-12. Second Job is 1:30-3:00. My third Job is random as in On call for filming sporting events etc in my area. I never know when I will be called. The only time I can make a video is when I'm not on call and I'm not told when until the beginning of the week and sometimes others hire me at random to film something for them.

Here is what I have to edit and film next month.

1. filming 2 weddings, Editing those two weddings.

2. filming Hockey every Saturday. Have to edit highlights and send to TV station to air by Monday

3. Filming a Documentary that I've been hired to do by my State. Will take a year to film and possibly two years to edit.

That's what I have going on next month along with my 3 other jobs.

I don't have time for a schedule. See my problem?

I don't want to sound harsh but you make it sound like you just don't have time for YouTube at all.
Even if you just film one video a month you can always schedule it simply by setting the video to be published on the first of every month. If you manage to film two videos one month then you can start to build a back catalogue as Evo suggested.
Having said that, I'm not sure how much a schedule is really important as long as you have some level of consistency.
