Should I go to Vidcon/Playlist?

I've Got It
My channel has about 585 subs (after 9 months of operation) and is starting to grow steadily. I've known about Vidcon and Playlist for ages, but I'm unsure if I should go.

Are those conventions conducive for small YouTubers to make a name for themselves, or are they more for fans of large YouTubers to see their favorites live?

I live in Jacksonville, Florida, so Orlando is barely a drive for me. Ill be in Los Angeles over the summer for work so I could probably take a day off for Vidcon. So it's not about if I should make the trip, but if it will benefit me and my channel. I don't want to pay $100+ if there isn't potential for me to grow my channel at these conventions.

While it might not be completely conducive for smaller channels, I would still say the experience would be worth it if it's not too big of a cost for you :)
But perhaps if you were to put yourself out there and meet lots of people, you could make some good contacts and learn lots of things.

I went to Vidcon this past summer, and I learned a lot! With the Creator track now, there are a lot of panels that are geared toward smaller channels wanting to grow, and even the tips given to "bigger" YouTubers were applicable. I definitely learned a lot, and was super inspired afterwards. I don't know if I'm going to go again this year (mainly because I might be studying abroad), but I had a blast and hope to go again in the future!
