Should I be ashamed?

I am in a somewhat similar situation as I myself haven't told anyone I know about my channel. For me that is one of the great things about youtube. You are able to create in a safe space and a community of people that share your interests and understand and appreciate their value. Do what makes YOU happy, not what will make everyone else happy.
Creativity takes courage.

Never feel ashamed of your channel. If you enjoy doing it, and its something you love next quit because people dont support you. Do you know the amount of times ive picked up my guitar and started playing when friends were over and they are like "man stop you sound like s**t". it never stops me from playing guitar.

That being said not a lot of people in my life know i youtube either. I live with my girlfriend and she doesnt even know! I have a fear about her reacting like your brother and sister did. My friends do know and have been apart of some gaming videos. They dont make fun of my for it or anything they mock me a little but its all in good fun.

But never be ashamed of something you do and love no matter what people say about it.

I don't know why you would even be ashamed. There is nothing wrong with making youtube videos; what's wrong with someone who has a hobby, and saying that it's a waste of potential is quite short-sighted, as you can learn a lot from youtube itself. Like: Communication between people, marketing, editing and many more, heck there are people who made a livelihood out of it, so once again I'll say: There isn't anything shameful with being an Youtuber. Just be strong, and do stuff that you like no matter what other people say. (as long as it's legal of course)

I think everything someone creates will be liked and disliked by a lot of people at the same time, so you can never do something that everyone likes: so don't be ashamed and do what YOU like to do!
