Shorter videos to increase audience retention?

Length does play a part in increasing audience retention as well as good content, but since I am about to make some music videos, I tend to keep them short (around 1-2 mins long).
As well as carefully editing my videos now, I have made them much shorter.
I have shortened my newer videos, which increases my audience retention to 40+%

But is there a bad thing to creating shorter videos?
 
Longer videos tend to rank better I believe?

Edit: Taking into account all of (or most of) it is being watched.

i.e Your 2 min video, let's say 1:33 of it is watched, as opposed to a video that's 10 minutes and the same ratio of it is watched.

Short videos are good to drag in your initial crowd (viewers have a crappy attention span if you haven't noticed) and they won't stay around for a "nobody" as much as they'd stay around for someone with a huge following. I'd say stick with short videos until you get bigger, and then go for longer videos which your loyal subs won't mind. :3


The exception to this rule are probably LPs to some extent. :3

I'd say... Make your music videos around 2 to 3 minutes in the beginning, as the average Youtube viewer does have a short attention span. And make them longer when you gain your audience.
 
Keep them short. Speaking as a viewer, I can find great music and music videos, but not watch all of it if its too long, nomatter who makes it. But also don't make them too short, then I just want more and/or feel something lacking, which could cause me (thoughnot me specifically) to press the dislike button instead of the like button. Same goes with too long. Generally, you need to balance the length.
 
length really just balences out in the end because longer videos mean more video for people to watch so you can get more watch time but people do tend to make a decision on weather or not to watch the video in the first place and one of the factors is how long it is but in the end all that matters is that the content is engaging all the way through
 
I once decide to make long videos length around 30mins each.
I have to agree that it hard to see someone watch your whole video completely, but it's normal since i'm new. Because the viewer don't understand new youtubers sometime, we have rooms for improuvements, some just judge too fast, lol ._.

Anyway, i would suggest around 1 mins to 15 mins, my video length are around that too.

Our very first video was a little over 11 minutes long, which is just way too long. Once we made ~5mins our goal, and tightened the editing, we were much happier with the results.
