Shooting way too much video

When I shoot, I have to shoot twice because I use a double in my videos... it takes a while cause I do the lines multiple times to get the best / funniest take...

I end up having so much footage, it takes so long to sift through... any suggestions?

I do the exact same thing...

I have found though the more videos I do, the better I am getting at having less excess footage. I think it just takes practice!

right, I cut a ton out of my script for the video I just uploaded... it would be over 10 minutes if I kept it all... writing shorter scripts from now on will help with shooting less. keep the videos to 4 to 7 minutes...

I used to have loads of footage and retakes and sometimes just three minutes of me staring at the camera wondering why I thought this would be a good idea. I've got it down to about 20 mins filming time for a 5 min video. More of course if it's a sketch with different angles and stuff. Just takes a while to work out what works best for you!

right... for me it is just writing too long of a script... my first two videos I actually broke into two... Probably could have done three... but it's a relief kind of cause I realize I don't have to write such long scripts and film for 2 hours... writing the next one tonight

I agree that it will probably just take time, and practice. Once you get for comfy with doing this youll get better and more efficiant.

I'm not sure that anything can really be done about it. It's just what happens when you're trying to make the best product possible.

1. Find a person who looks just like you.
2. tie them up in the basement
3. ???
4. Profit!

If you're like me, you probably review the footage multiple times. What you could do is run through it once and do what I call is a pre-cut. This is where I chop out all the obvious junk. Anything that can be remotely useful stays in. This gets me down to about 50-70% of the original footage. In later stages, I don't have to re-sift through the junk footage.
