Coming from the professionals out there what do you guys personally recon is the best way to promote your videos?

I was wondering if some people could share their techniques and how well it works for them. I'll also share mine.

Posting video URL on Tumblr and giving it common tags which might come up in search results. Such as 'Funny' 'Quotes' 'Picures' etc..

I have also gained a large following base of maybe 5000 people on Twitter? Which i find works for me. When i upload a new video i tweet it and 5000 followers see the link. If you wanna improve your followers on Twitter, i found it's best to follow randoms and 90% of the time they will follow you back. Great for advertisement.

Anything else anyone can share? :)

If anyone wants to do a subscribe for subscribe im also open to that. Just drop me a reply or a PM telling me you subbed and ill be sure to sub back! :)

Cheers-
Jamie

I've come to the conclusion that gaining a popularity on youtube is mostly about luck lol.

I couldn't agree more. Some people have luck, others don't.

But i honestly have found that advertising on Twitter (mainly) and getting to know your followers comes with a massive advantage!

there's people who have been youtubing for like 4 years with a max of like 500-1000 subs and that's sadly as high as it's gunna get. and then there's other's who just blow up in a matter of months - 1 year

I can see that working well, if you engage with your audience through these sites regularly and not just tweet "hey check out my latest video" and become a friend more or less then they are far more likely to watch your stuff, "check my new video out" every few days will only get on their nerves if its all you tweet about, mixed in with decent friendly interaction though it will blend well and people wont see you as a spammer or someone who is desperate, like if you come across to a girl as desperate they are less likely to become interested in you, it works like that with this. I do understand that its hard to constantly maintain activity on loads of social sites but if you want success it will certainly pay off.

You could try writing articles where possible if you can about the videos you do perhaps a Squidoo Lens although I havent delved into that so much but it will give you a back link to your channel say if you wrote an article and then linked to your video as an example or if you were talking about your video in the article perhaps as a third person if you get me. Bringing in links should help it rise in the search engines which many could find your videos on although that can be hard for funny videos or original music for example. If your video is that inspiring or good you could find others linking directly to it bringing it more since it was so good or useful etc

Thanks for that! You have some really good points and information here.

Firstly you are right about the Twitter thing! You actually have to take time into interacting with your followers, spamming the YouTube url of your video leads to people ignore you and if its a constant spam, possibly loosing followers. I take time to tweet people and get to know them, also offering shout outs in return for them paying attention to my tweets (when i actually do post a video url).

Secondly, i have heard a lot about articles and such but im yet to try it. Thanks for taking the time to write this up, i might look into it and give it a shot. :)

Well, there are certain things that one can do in order to improve the odds of getting noticed. The more you do, the more likely you are to gain some form of audience. That doesn't guarantee that you'll get one, so yes there is luck involved, and there's also the matter of what level of quality is in your videos. Ultimately, I just think that It's kind of a mixture of everything. Just DON'T depend on YouTube for your entire exposure, because then nothing will ever happen.

I agree with this aswell! Youtube is full of so much content if you're gonna reply on Youtube for people to find your videos, you will have a rough time. I'm slowly setting up myself a website (I was previously a web developer in another life :) ) and ill use wordpress to also advertise, get my links crawled through google under more keywords etc....

I am with ***** on that 100%, YouTube really isnt providing much for anyone new to YouTube at present, you can upload the best video ever made that should be viral and on everyones screens and not promote it, nor speak to anyone and see it go down the pan, you have to put it out there without stepping on anyones toes and hammer your name/brand or whatever into their minds without being too annoying. I wrote an article once on that but it isnt too in depth or anything. I tried your site there but that isnt loading but having it working/loading would be good if its complete as you can send people to that which they could bookmark if theres something you can provide there in addition to your channel and that could lead them back to your channel when they visit there or at least watch your videos through your site.[DOUBLEPOST=1343172179][/DOUBLEPOST]

Just seen this there ignore my bit about it not loading :D

Yeah, definitely. It's like people believe that just because they make videos, people will flock to them. You need to produce and promote them, you know?
