I have a question, why is it that people seem to have this hypocritical stance on adverts?
*How do i get exposure?* "advertise yourself...except if i see it, then im going to burn you at the stake." This seems to be the general attitude towards this and i was wondering what we thought about it.

Also this was typed on a cell phone so excuse the grammer and spacing.

Anyways, best way to gain exposure is casually. Just make friends, post your videos places, and ask others to check them out. Nothing really complicated about it, just don't go spamming places.

this is actually so true, off of commenting on about 15 different livestreams in the past 5 days i have got about 20 - 30 people to talk to me and watch my livestreams and about 20 of them subscribed too. So if i do this every week i could be getting a bonus like 40 - 60 subs a week than i usually do.
 
It depends on how you do it.

You can do it wrong like spamming s**t in comment sections and throwing your channel in someones face when they don't want it.

Or you can be more subtile with your markening by commenting interesting stuff in comment sections of bigger youtubers.
 
Yup, just don't do it in a bad way. Honestly, and I know 99% of people here would disagree, but I could care less if somebody messages me their video and asks me to check it out. It takes me 5 seconds to delete it, or maybe, if it intrigues me, I get a new subscription to watch. YouTube is hard to grow on, obviously, I wish more people would be more understanding of that, but what I don't like is when people post comments saying "check me out, I make so and so videos", whether on big channels or even my channel to get my attention. When done subtly, it's hardly an issue.
 
"Advertising" isn't just about screaming "SUB4SUB" everywhere, it also includes just being seen places representing your channel/brand. I.e. comment on others' videos, post around forums with links to your stuff in your signature, etc.
