Review my editing!

Hey folks, I'm very new to YouTube and video editing in general and am stuck using free software like Hitfilm Express and Windows Movie Maker. I have been experimenting with silly edits in my letsplay channel, and I'd really appreciate any feedback at all to whether I'm doing the right thing.

The channel is an outlet for me and my best friend to play vintage games of our childhood and silly obscure stuff. We don't have enough of an audience to get criticism naturally, so I'd love some more seasoned people to give us a bit of feedback.

Please check out the video in question below, a quick play of the PS1 game Jurassic Park, The Lost World

Welcome to YTTALK! Just so you know your link to your channel isn't working :) Awesome video, very entertaining!

Hi I know you asked for a review on only the editing but I felt like I would point out everything I would like to change. This is only my opinion. I don't do this as a professional job. Here we go:

Mic quality, so try and get a new mic if possible or if you already own a great one get the settings right.

Good idea to have friend but he is to quiet, involve him more ask him to put out challenges for you such as try killing a raptor while mid air. Let him throw suggestions like doing something silly. Also while I am on the topic of commentating, you show great enthusiasm by screaming when dying or doing the michael jackson dance with a raptor but once again your partner needs to gain life in the commentating as well.

Edit out the useless like for instance if you cut out the travel time to the point of the jump, where you failed to make the jump 4 times in a row and only show the failure and maybe the jokes in between that would have been already much better. Only try and get the highlights of the game play series.

There are people that love lengthy videos in my opinion I don't like a lets play of 25 min or so unless its a story based game like the last of us. I am not to sure if this is personal preference but I would reduce the video's time to at least 10 min maybe 15 at most. This can easily be achieved by only showing highlights.

Maybe add some background music or turn up game music a tad not much since the viewers are there for your story telling and is just there for those small short quiet moments. Bassically to fill the void.

I understand its a ps1 so you cant really improve the quality but try and get the footage full screen, the black border around the game play might annoy some.

Other then that its funny, the idea is very unique and the channel art is great. This channel can definitely grow and is capable of a lot.

Good luck and have fun.

Hi and thanks so much for your feedback!

I am really very new to YouTube and I think we will be able to iron out all of the technical problems with a better mic and maybe mic placement too. We are on a bit of a budget, and the snowball was all we could afford. I think I need to tweak the settings so it records on a lower gain so we don't peak out too much also.

Good idea with the highlights, it's certainly something I want to be better at, and I'll definitely be more vigilant towards frustrating moments with little-to-no progress.

I appreciate the compliments also, and I hope that we can get a small following, although with obscure titles for older systems, we aren't likely to blow up too much! (Success isn't the goal for us, we just love making these as a hobby)

Also, I did edit in the OST to Jurassic Park, it's just quite low volume, believe it or not the game has no music at all!

Ahh I understand the music part, add a humorous background music and mute out the gameplay sound completely then.

Like I said, the idea is so dam unique... its time someone showed the new generation what the good old couch gaming was all about and if you guys could show how much fun your having with these old game, you might get some kids to be jealous that they never could have experienced having friends over at their places, in the basement, having snacks and sitting on that second hand couch playing some games.

YouTube is also a hobby and its not really there to get thousands of followers, truth be told I am doing this to get my self out of the house more and explore. I am an developer so I work in front of a computer the whole day, get home and watch series or game in front of the computer the other half of the day.

I am curious to see how you mold this channel as I can see the potential. The only thing needed in the mixture is experience, so meaning I am going to sub. Love the nostalgic factor.

Thanks so much!

I think the ps1 "era" is somewhat underdone, and there is so much content unexplored!

We had a sizable collection of old consoles and games, and saw that not that many people out there were making similar content. I think, as you say, it's going to come down to experience and knowing how to utilise my hardware and software.

I hope you stick with us, we have a lot of ideas!
