The part quoted above is the one which really has me worried.

YouTube seems to be using this to demonetize genres like ambient meditation music, which is one of the genres I myself post to. I compose my own music using software based synthesizers, but my visuals are drawn from stock clips. Sometimes I use the clips unaltered as a loop; sometimes I composite them into a new loop wit two or more layered in transparency.

Yeh I don't think you'll be able to keep doing that. Just make a point of going out once a week maybe to capture some footage you own IP for. Explore some outdoors places? set up cam on tripod and film some trees/ scenery etc. film you cat sleeping.. cat = 10x guaranteed thumbnail clicks

@UhoohExtra

Unfortunately, I gave up owning pets about 14 years ago; just before I left the US to come live in the UK. When I get over a recent leg injury, I will have to see about that filming. The problem is, I've never been able to create a seamless loop.

Really though you shouldnt have to do all this just to prove youre not some malicious content hoarder/spammer or whatever they are deemed as.

They tell people to check analytics, see whats working and make more of that, hmmm.

@Michael

My friend, go here while logged into your YouTube account and have a look at the current state of affairs. In fact, I invite all members of the forum to do so at your leisure.

IMHO, YouTube/Adsense now think they are better than, or above mainstream broadcast media and Hollywood themselves.

Yeh I don't think you'll be able to keep doing that.
I fully license all stock I use; so yes I do own the IP on them, just not exclusively; and that gets quite expensive at times. I've been known to spend up to £300.00 in a single licensing run, and it burns me up that this isn't enough for YouTube's greed.

In addition, I am a Royalty-Free Music composer; and this threatens to cut into my potential licensing profits too.

Unfortunately, you need to look at this section from the Adsense Quality Guidelines before you say that; as nature scenery is some of the most used footage whether self-filmed or not, in not only my YouTube genre of ambient meditation music, but in Mainstream Media also.

This is why I say that YouTube/Adsense now think they are above both MSM and Hollywood.

Content quality guidelines
AdSense content policies are extensive and include quality guidelines from the Webmaster/Search Console policies. We've highlighted some of the most relevant policies for YouTube creators below.

Reminder: These guidelines apply to your channel overall. If we find that a channel is dedicated to content that doesn't meet our guidelines, the channel may be suspended from the Partner Programme.

Make sure that your content adds value, and is unique and relevant. We've included some examples of content that doesn't meet these standards, which means that it can't be monetised. This list is not exhaustive.

  • Reused content. This is content that doesn't provide significant original commentary or educational value. It may also mean that we've identified that large portions of your channel either completely match other content, or are noticeably similar. Examples include:
    • Third-party videos stitched together with minimal-to-no changes
    • Third-party content compiled without a narrative
    • Content uploaded somewhere else first
    • Content uploaded many times by multiple users
  • Automatically-generated content. This is content generated through automated processes, stitching or combining content from different sources. Examples include:
    • Synthetic voice reading third-party content
    • Content on a channel with minimal changes from video to video
    • Third-party image slideshows with no additional commentary
    • Repetitive or mindless content with no additional commentary or narrative
Note: You may be able to monetise third-party content if you have commercial use rights for that content, and you're contributing to the value of that content in some way. This can include, but is not limited to, high-quality editing, adding commentary or narrative.

I am a Royalty-Free Music composer

perhaps his is something you should change in the future?

It seems that offering something for free it is not respected any more,
furthermore it may be misused or abused...

Put a price tag on it and people will do whatever they can to get it...

ah... how do you survive in there? really toxic and unfriendly environment

a father asks what to do for his minor son that opened a channel and there is no hotline on this?

I take a break every few days and let the fur fly without me is how. In a pinch I can flame war with the best of 'em; but I feel that it is a waste of time and energy.

I am not giving anything away, my friend :biggrin: Have a look. :coolphones:
