Responding to haters... works?

Yeah I have never had one either, and I understand why they do it... but when a video doesn't get enough traffic to get 6-7 thumbs up within a minute it's obviously them on multiple accounts lol. I still have some time to get to the point where I get haters in youtube, but already have some in real life. I just do what symphonious7 said and make fun of myself.

So recently someone has been mass-disliking my videos with multiple accounts (About 12-13). Well I guess they realized it wasn't really affecting me much because they started to leave hate comments. I was simply deleting the comment and blocking the channel, but I decided to respond to one.

Now I know responding to trolls can turn bad, I usually suggest that no one replies to them. But I figured i'd give it a shot. So I made the comment as nice as possible. I said that it's not affecting me if that's what they're after, and they are wasting their time commenting and thumbing up their comment on multiple accounts. To my surprise, the comments and dislikes have stopped. I haven't received any more mass-dislikes, or hate comments since. Now of course it may to be to early to judge, but usually within the first day of a new upload I receive mass-dislikes. It's actually a great feeling that maybe the person decided to actually leave me alone. I just wish I know what I did to make him mad, but then again it could just be a troll who does this to multiple people for the heck of it. I also haven't got botted since (But I don't know if this is the same person who has botted my channel).

I'm now crossing my fingers that this person is finally going to leave me alone. I hope that since I responded in a polite manner, and not in a rude way, they changed their mind about me and/or my channel. Have you ever had a troll/hater that wouldn't leave you alone?

I take a very US approach to people who only hate for the sake of it, I WILL NOT NEGOTIATE WITH THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

Call it cowardly but they declared it upon me first and damn hell I will not give them any form of benefit from it!

That actually makes me wish I had trolls just so I could say stuff like that :D :bounce:
 
I still have someone mass disliking many of my new videos but I have largely ignored it now.

It would be nice if blocking someone keeps them from downvoting your videos too.

Congrats on getting rid of the haters from your channel! :) I do hope they stay away for good, but even a temporary victory is worthwhile, especially if it allows your channel to grow instead of being halted..[DOUBLEPOST=1370366871,1370366627][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, I think that YouTube should change the privilege level of blocked users. The only things that blocked users cannot do is comment or subscriber on the video owner's channels/videos, but it does not stop the person from downrating or flagging the video itself... It would be nice if they can only view the video, but no interaction, subscription, and downvoting/flagging of videos, this way it would really minimize the amount of damage a blocked hater/troll can do. Better yet, do make all the thumbs ups and downs visible to the video owner that way it would be easier to track the people who like/dislike videos :)
