Removing inactive subscribers.. does it helps?

Yeah, as someone else had pointed out, there's probably a psychology behind having higher sub numbers than lower. The higher your number, the more people will think you have a legitimate channel that they should follow. I know that when I look at channels, the subscriber count and view count tell me a lot of information on the channel and make me judge whether or not they are successful.

Yeah that's true, is the same for me.. but a lot of users just buy subscribers!
 
Some might come back. It's also not obvious who is inactive. Some people watch but never comment.

Also, how does one even "remove subscribers"? That's up to the subscriber, not the channel, isn't it?
 
it would be interesting to see if all the say top20 youtubers did this for a day to see how many active subs they really have
