Registered Sex Offenders On YouTube

If they're allowed to use the internet (whether with strict restrictions or otherwise), I don't really think that's Youtube's problem. The rules of the site should apply to them just like everyone else.

If you're worried about recidivism, I imagine Twitter or Facebook would be much more dangerous than a video site.

I don't think youtube should have anything to do with this, UNELSS, it is documented and proven, that a user has used their messages, comments, or videos to continue to do wrong.

so if they had children viewers, and they were on the RSO, and also sent lewd messages to said viewers, then yes, i think youtube should terminate their account.

they should do this anyways whether they are RSO or not.

When I was about 16 on Myspace (when it was a real big deal) I met a girl from New Jersey who was about a year younger than me. She was being constantly contacted by a guy that was somewhere around the 25 year old mark. This was right around the time those Dateline shows To Catch a Predator came on. This guy really liked this friend of mine. He was sending messages daily trying to court her online with both romantic and sexually suggestive tones. She wasn't having it all and I eventually came to know this guy personally because he found I was a good friend of this gal. I couldn't really talk to him about much since there was a big age gap between us but I got the impression he wasn't good with women his age. He seemed socially awkward. I came to find out that this guy had a history of contacting teenage girls online because some of the bulletin posts girls would make about him. Well the guy finally had enough of being called a Pedo and a Stalker and a Predator by some of the other Teens our age and he terminated his account and never came back to the website as far as we could tell. I Imagine he just set up a new profile and tried hitting on girls in another area but I don't know for sure.

So when I saw what you two have posted, I think of that story. The guy wasn't an RSO as far as I can remember but I vaguely remember him having done something in his past that wasn't good. I don't remember, it's been like 8 or 9 years since then.

Going back to the YouTube thing, I also think about how easy it is for someone with sway over a young audience to take advantage of said audience. It's what Online Predators are good at. They will say or do anything to get the trust of young dumb teens (like I was). These Predators are what scare me the most because they are good at what they do and it's stuff like manipulation and making believe they are something they are not.

On a sort of related note, one of my friends on Steam told me they were female last weekend. I was friends with them for over a year and I didn't know they were female. I never gave much thought to that person being one sex or the other because we mostly chatted about video games. Well I kind of didn't believe them when they told me this. I believe this person was trying to cat phish me because in the same conversation they revealed to me they were female all of the sudden they turned the conversation into a very suggestive and sexual chat which we had never had before. It was the same person because we were also talking about the same stuff we knew about each others interests.

Anyway, this person ended up sending me a picture of "them" (which I did not request) and I ran it thru Googles reverse image search and found the picture on the internet along with it's source. This person told me that they had taken the picture just for me prior to sending it. This picture was not of this person. What is crazy is that person lives about 30 or 35 miles from me as well and when they said they had taken the picture it was already dark out but in the picture they had sent it was still daylight which was what sent up a lot of red flags. It had taken me a few hours to get around to putting the image thru googles image search but the second I found the image was fake, I blocked that person immediately. I even discovered that this person had deleted the meta-data on the picture to try and ensure that I couldn't find any info on it but luckily I had Google to help me discover the truth.

It's creepy that people do that stuff. The scariest part about that though was I couldn't figure that persons angle. Why would they make believe they were someone they were not? Were they really a female? What did they want from me? I had known this person for a year and considered them a good buddy on my Steam friends list and all of the sudden they are a female depicting themselves as a busty asian girl?

So yeah, even grown adults like myself need to watch for weirdo's and predator's online >.>

A lot of people on that list don't deserve to be. It's not like it's just pedophiles either.

I understand how the internet could be seen as a powerful tool for such a person. It can also be a demon to avoid.

However, the internet is pretty much required to get anything done in the modern world. Completely removing it is not an option. And stamping a scarlet letter onto a potentially innocent person is not a world I want.
