Reddit pros and cons

Has anyone had a real good experience using reddit as a promotion tool and if so, how did you go about using it?

I don't know whether or not to use it to try to boost my channel's viewing and demographic.

I've had little or no luck myself. We do song parodies and I've posted a few here and there, and I might get 3-5 views per posting, but I've never had any great influx of views or subs from my experimentation. Most of our posts get downvoted right away and buried.

From posts I've read here in the past, Redditors usually don't go for self-promotion and will sometimes even come to your channel just to give your video a thumbs down. It seems that Reddit works better for videos from channels that are already big (unless you've got some hilarious viral-potential hit video).

I'm not saying don't try it... it could still be worth a go, depending on what you're posting and what subreddit you post to. I've just had no luck thus far.

I've had mostly good experiences posting on Reddit. A lot of my music video game covers get regular views in at least the hundreds when I post them. Plenty of good comments too. My best was when I posted a Soundcloud song I'd finished and posted it to the appropriate subs and it got over 1000 hits. You have to take part in the subs you're posting to. If you just post your own stuff it won't work and people will see you as a self promoter.

I always post my videos on places where it relates. Such as I make Harry potter drawing my videos go with "hardy potter fan art" section of reddit.
I had a good overall experience. I wouldn't say I get a heavy load of views from reddit. Maybe under 100 on teach video I posted on reddit. All my comments were positive so far. Bit as for the votes on reddit they are not all up votes.

Reddit has something called rediquette. Self promotion can be done, but is generally frowned upon. So unless you have something really epic to share... Don't put your video on reddit.

I'd say 99% of my views come from Reddit posts.

Although I'm quite active within the subreddit and stick to the reddiquette of that sub. If you just dump your links in there and bail, they will be buried faster than a turd in kitty litter.

The cons of Reddit: It is the true test to see who enjoys your videos. It's like stepping into a bee nest; we wait and see which bee lands on you and which one stings. (I'm not sure if that made sense)

My religion videos typically do okay in r/atheism. They will get about 3 or 4 thumbs up in that sub reddit. For gaming I am completly at a loss because whenever I post in a subreddit dedicated to the game I did a lets play of I always get tons of comments on it saying that (you're posting in the wrong sub reddit, althrough those subreddits have no rules about doing that.
