reddit is ruthless

KWKBOX

I Love YTtalk
I posted a topic relating to a game glitch I experienced in the proper subreddit for the system it happened on and linked a recording I did on the game from my youtube channel so people can see what the glitch did. I started getting feedback and was getting upvotes but after about an hour a moderator banned me and sent me a message saying "self promotion at your scale is not acceptable you have been banned" I then notice all the great comments and feedback I was getting got removed from the subreddit and I no longer have access. Is this normal? Last time I checked self promotion was "Hey guys check out my channel" which is not the topic I had.

Not every subreddit is that ruthless, but yeah :( It depends on the moderating team and how anal they are. From what you've told me, this definitely seems like a bit of an over-the-top reaction, but they may just super strict because they don't want to start a precedent. Sorry, man - maybe try a different gaming related sub?

Did you provide 2 things of feedback before posting? Some mods on the Let's play and Let's play critiques will instaban you if they see you posted without providing 2 things of feedback first.

Some subreddits have that stringency, where even if your topic is relevant, something that links back to YOU as the creator counts as self promotion.

Did you actively participate in the subreddit? I once saw a video where the guy compared reddit to living at home. You may be relevant, but no one wants to relax at home and have some guy come in and poo on the floors.

I'm not saying you're poo, but it could just be the way you came off as.

Way I see it, unless the rules of the subreddit state you're allowed to post links to your own videos, I don't do it at all.

Yep, some mods are real dicks who let the power of being a mod on the "frontpage of the internet" go to their head...

I also just love the "at your scale" dig, like your content is worthless unless you have a million subs. Reddit has been on a crusade against original content for a while, now. It's especially weird considering that's what made the site what it is... I predict that whole site will go under pretty soon, just like Digg.

Yeah, Reddit is pretty hit or miss that way. Some subreddits will let it slide, others will rip it down if it even has a link in it despite the context. I've only just started using the site, and it can be good for promotion, but it is a bit of a mine field and pretty frustrating.

Yep made sure that was in place.[DOUBLEPOST=1428074615,1428074493][/DOUBLEPOST]
Depends on subreddit where you posted the video, also your topic, is it "really" relevant?
I do not know how much more relevant posting a glitch on a game for a system under the subreddit specifically for the same system would not be relevant. But apparently I have looked further into this and basically unless my karma is in the 1k range you are a target on this subreddit.

Posting a glitch from a game was fine, the problem for them was that it was your own video, as they viewed that as blatant self-promotion.
