Recording with Dxtory - Life is Strange

Hey guys (and gals!!),
I was trying (and failing...) to do a lets play of the first episode of Life is Strange. I use Dxtory to record and typically its very resource efficient and doesn't affect my frames very much but unfortunately it totally tanks my framerate in Life is Strange. I can play at solid 60FPS (or higher with vsync off) without dxtory recording but as soon as I record, the framerate tanks to around 20-22 FPS.
I don't have my settings available to me at the minute, but I use the Lags Leet lossless codec to keep the filesize small(er), doesn't cause an issue for any other game I've tried (although I've only posted vids for Tomb Raider and NZA at the minute I have tried to record a few more - just no interesting footage was captured).
This appears to happen regardless of the in game settings , I've turned everything (barring resolution) down to minimum and nothing helps. I figure I'd rather not record it if I cant get a descent framerate at 1920x1080 resolution but I'm just baffled as to why its doing it.
Not tried a different recording program yet but will get on that at the weekend (maybe... ZAT is out on Friday...).
Anyone had any similar experiences? The only other game I can think of that has this kind of issue is Binding of Isaac, which I have not overcome either (again not tried a different program yet).
Maybe that's the simple answer :) try something else, just odd that Dxtory works so well with everything else (that I've tried)...

Just a minor point of contention. That's not what this particular codec does or is for. It results in far larger files than most others because it is set up for quality and to be edited down to a proper h.264 codec in post production. It's a lot closer to recording raw than most other codecs.

The file sizes are certainly a lot smaller than what I was using previously which was whatever Dxtory comes with..

Dxtory was a nightmare for me. I had to install and try various audio and video codecs and it still wouldn't run properly. I would experience minor lag, but mostly audio and video not syncing up. I almost couldnt export the video into anything but AVI format, which doesn't work in adobe premiere.

I highly recommend using OBS. Its been flawless for me with small file sizes, no lag, and no hassle. All I did was download, tweek some minor settings and go. You can check out some of my videos if youre curious about quality (everything is 1080p 29.97 fps).

Will OBS do 1080 @ 60FPS? - I'll certainly give it a go either way.

Yup you can set it to whatever fps you want. All I record in is 1080p. My computer is pretty good however so im not sure if other people experience trouble with the power requirements.

Yeah I have a good setup too, will give OBS a shot, should benefit my audio too as its got a noise gate I believe.
