Recording software?

I always seem to be the odd one out...

Mirillis Action! because it has great quality, about half the file size as fraps, and uses 1/5 the processing power of fraps and dxtory.

Dxtory is actually pretty good with the right codec and setup, but that involves finding the right codec and set up. Can't really just open and press record.

Using an elgato can work but as mentioned you should record using 2 comps because it will use quite a bit of your cpu.

(yes I did a test for cpu usage and plan on doing a video this weekend.. Mirillis Action used 2% | Bandicam used 9% | Fraps used about 11% | Dxtory used 10% (I think this would change depending on the codec) | Elgato used 25%)

There's already sooo many threads on this but I'll say it again. Camtasia is really good and has great quality, but except for the free trail you have to shell out $200. If you're looking for totally free I'd say Microsoft Expression.

yes those are great for screen recording but others are better for recording games as they can detect and record directX and openGL.

most aren't very expensive.

Mirillis Action is $30
Bandicam $39
Fraps $37
Dxtory $35

assuming you don't pirate it.

How about bandicam= ±' Filesizes are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay smaller then fraps and its pretty good quality and easy for usage +' It has a simple interface :smug: Try it ;)

Ive used Fraps before and it's great, but it just lags me soooo bad

I can really recommend, FFSplit works similar to XSplit, it's free and it's efficient, it can record directly to MP4 out of the box. You need some time to tweak it's settings to your needs but conventional FPS games can look okay in 720p and end up being about 300 Mb for 20 minutes of gameplay. A little warning tho, this app is currently in development so it may miss some features or have some bugs, but I've been recording with it for quite some time and no serious bugs so far ( serious I mean , corrupt MP4 file, that never happened so far ).
