Fraps is the best way to screen record for a PC, but for a Mac... I would say "ScreenFlow". ScreenFlow is just like Camtasia but better (in my opinion.)
I prefer Dxtory for Windows. It's a lot more complicated but you can achieve a lot more with it.
I have used fraps in the past and it is really easy to use.
But basically millions of people all have their own suggestions so you need to make a wishlist of what you want in your software and what kind of computer you have. Also how high should the quality be?
Dxtory can record without any compression, it requires the least amount of CPU but it does require a lot of hard drive capacity and a couple of hard drives to actually share the writing load.
Fraps is great all-round and is endorsed and used by many professional YouTubers. That's my 2 cents
Having troubles with Fraps on your PC? Is the FPS dropping like crazy?
Then get dxtory! It's very awesome.
Fraps is using alot of your computers memory when recording, dxtory doesn't. (Well not as much at least).
And if you're recording your voice too, it's much better with dxtory. 'Cause in your video editing software you'll get 2 soundtracks, one for your microphone recording and one for the game-sound. (I've only tried this with Sony Vegas 11.0)
NOTE: This is only my personal thoughts about this, you don't have to follow my advice!
i would use Debut, recorded my happy wheels excellently, although it is only a 14-day trial, but i kept the setup files when the trial expired I just clicked install on the setup files and got an extra 7 days out of it!
