Recording audio for dual commentary?

All recording or most recording software picks up any sound that emits from your computer, so skype for example would be picked up in the recording.
 
There are other, more high quality ways of recording a dual commentary besides skype. There are tons of free voip programs out there! I find Skype to be very finicky, especially depending on how distant the call is being made, and it likes to lag out at random moments from time to time. Directly connecting for a voice chat isn't always the best way of going about things.

Skype is the way to go but i hardly like that way because some of the skype recorders well free ones are quite crappy but both commentators can use their audio recording devices for example audacity then once when the dual com is done you guys can skype file send the files and have a much crisper commentary :-)
 
Coordinating and syncing files from two separate recording locations is a tall order to be honest. Skype is a bit rough. Ventrilo or Teamspeak would be a decent choice.

With something as simple as a synchronized countdown timer or sound, it's really easy to sync up two separate audios.
 
Somewhat dependent on latency. I dunno, I just see more possible points of failure in trying to have two people record the same track and mix them together. Voice chat works fine as long as the codec is good.
 
Please DO NOT use Skype. This is the worst possible option, use Mumble or Teamspeak.

Why?

Skype audio quality is absolutely atrocious.

Skype takes control of your entire audio and screws around with levels really badly. It is very difficult to adjust volume and microphone settings so that the recording levels match well.
 
If you use a Mac, get an app called Screenflow. There is an option called Record System Audio. That will record whatever will come out of your speakers (or in this case headphones so your mic doesn't pick them up) and it auto syncs it for you. It's what I use for all dual commentaries I've done over Skype. The other option as others have stated is to hit your audio at the same time (roughly) and sync it in your editing program.

As for Skype quality being bad, that means one of the two of you has bad internet :P Stop using dat Walmart connection, son!
