Recent Cyndago/Markiplier Disaster!! ToT

So did anyone hear that Dan from Cyndago committed suicide, its so tragic, and a couple days after dying his hair in support for people with depression. Im so shocked and sad. My heart is heavy with this loss and this world just wont be the same, honestly i hope Mark and the rest of the Cyndago group are okay. post your favorite video by Cyndago below or just what you think about this tragedy in general, my favorite video by them is The Man In The Red Mask. XD now im sad tho ToT

I read about this but am not really familiar with Cyndago. Apparently a lot of people (fans and creators alike) were affected by it. Pretty tragic for sure.

just what you think about this tragedy in general
You mentioned that Dan had tried supporting people with depression with an outreach thing? What kind of message does that send to people (viewers) with depression after finding he committed suicide not too long after? I cannot stress enough how terrible it can be for someone going thru their own depression and possible suicidal thoughts and get some support from this YouTuber/Person they watch but all of the sudden he takes his own life not too long after. Try to imagine yourself as one of those people and just finding out this person ended up taking their own life. That would say that there's no hope or his words of support were false and so on and so forth.

It's possible there were people who ended up taking their own lives after hearing about this and we'd never know about it. His suicide is tragic enough but the fact that this has collateral damage is even worse and extremely terrifying. It's why I don't believe that YouTuber's should be pontificating/preaching about social issues in the ardent/die-hard manner they do because their people just like us. A while back I was concerned that Boogie2988 would take his own life even though he tries to encourage and uplift others with depression and issues on his channel.

YouTuber's aren't any more noble, wise, correct, honest, etc. than the rest of us. Viewers need to understand that YouTuber's are entertainer's not The Pope or the Dalai Lama. They are just people and fame is just an empty currency for celebrating false gods. In fact, there are YouTuber's who will do, say and avoid anything (essentially pander) to maintain their reputation/image that is vital to their growth and pockets. So their/our words are hardly valuable and empty when trying to get across messages about these types of things because it can be false, bastardizing and hypocritical.

Wow. I know Markiplier was MIA for a bit and he only said it was for 'personal reasons' and I heard this person died... but not that he took his own life... That's terrible. I hope this guy's friends and family are alright. My best wishes go out to them.

I think a lot of people (myself included) don't realize what actual depression feels like. People throw around the phrase 'I'm depressed' more often than they probably should. Real depression is a whole different situation. The best way I've ever heard it described is in this excerpt from a Reddit post a couple years ago:

Living life as someone experiencing depression is like scuba diving with a bunch of friends, only to find out mid-dive that your equipment doesn't work-- sure, your friends are having the time of their lives exploring the reef and marveling at the pretty fishes, but in the meantime you're there, choking to death, frantically clawing at your oxygen tank and mask praying to any dear sweet deity that you don't pass out and die right there at the bottom of the ocean. Now, imagine those friends becoming frustrated and bored with your "antics" and insisting you "lighten up", enjoy the dive and the pretty coral and "stop being such a buzzkill." It's not very fun.

Think about this for a moment. It's really scary to imagine how this might actually feel. Helpless. When you think about some of the higher profile people/celebrities who have committed suicide (Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Mindy Mcready, etc) you can get a better idea of how serious depression is. You don't have to have financial issues, relationship issues, or even be sad about anything. It's not like that.

My first impression was the same as yours, that it is not a good example for him to set. And then I gave it some more thought and realized that the last thing he possibly wanted to do in the entire world, based on his recent activities and what he had going on in terms of helping others with depression, is actually influence others to hurt themselves in any way. When you put it into that perspective it's easy to see that his depression and the pain he was feeling was something beyond our comprehension.[DOUBLEPOST=1442977095,1442977059][/DOUBLEPOST]Here is the complete Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/depression...to_die_but_i_dont_want_to_kill_myself/c8gwtls

Depression is a powerful thing, and it makes people not think rationally at all. They think they are alone, even if they are not. And the worst thing is that some are very good at hiding it, while inside it is eating the person up. Everyone deals with various stages of depression throughout life, but for some people it goes to the next level. May he rest in peace.

This makes it sound a bit like "he should've thought of that before he did it", so I just wanna say, one of the worst things about depression is that it makes you incapable of caring. If you're really deep in it, there could be a baby drowning next to you and you wouldn't care. But you'd hate yourself for not caring, and still not do anything, because even lifting a finger is too much effort.

I absolutely agree with your other points. The fault is both with viewers who put YouTubers on a pedestal and YouTubers who make it seem like they are giving expert advice. I have seen so many psychological "advice" videos full of false and potentially harmful information, it's infuriating.

I watched the video of mark telling people earlier, It upset me how many trolls were in the comments then nice genuine comments, even though i didnt know who he was its still so unbelieveably tragic :(
