RANT!! Youtube and copyright

As some of you know i have been working on my youtube to produce better higher quility videos. I recently started a Mud mower build and decided I would love to end the build video kind of like how they end pimp my ribe or overhauling. Where just before they put on the paint and finishing touches they cut out. Then the reveal the car in a series of clips and pics with a 30 secound bit of music. Well i got thinking about it and remembered an old game i used to play that had an awsome intro music
See first 28 secounds of this video

So the game was released in 1997 it took me a weak to hunt down the original writer of the learics and get an email to him. After recieving a rather rude email back from him about his music i explained I would be willing to pay him and credit him for the rights to use it. I expected to get my hopes and dreams bashed in with an email state some god knows what price that i could not aford. But at least i would have tried. Well instead i get back an email with him admitting he did not own the copywrite

on it and that team17 the software company did. Great so i moved on to team 17 with some more research i found out that they had realeased to opensorce the games music

I became estatic and began the search to get my leagal realeased copy. I found the open realease files and opened the music file. There where only 7 songs (should have been 8) none of wich where 28 secounds. Turns out the intro from 1997 has never once been reused and is still under copywrite protection.

End rant!!!

read bottom email to top you tell me??
Hi Neil,

Normally, my music is available to license online from the stock music website, www.Shockwave-Sound.com. From there you can buy a license to use a music track on YouTube and other types of uses.

However, I’m afraid the “Worms” music is not available there because strictly speaking, I was working as an employee of Team17 Software Ltd when I composed that music and as such, the music is not really “mine” to sell in that way. I cannot make an income on that music, at least not for commercial use, because of Team17 Software’s involvement (Okay, ownership!) of the music.

So if you are hell bent on using the “Worms 2” music and nothing else, really, I can only refer you to Team17 Software Ltd, to see if you can get permission from them. Remember to tell them that you need commercial rights in order to use the music in a YouTube video and monetize the video.

Kind regards,

I am sorry i never meant free. I wanted to know what it would cost me to use it and still be able to monetize my videos.

Thanks

Hi Neil,

I’m sorry, no, my music is not available to use on YouTube for free.

There are some other sites where you can get completely free, royalty-free music, for use in your videos. www.incompetech.com and www.danosongs.com come to mind. But my music is not available free like that. Sorry about that.

Kind regards,

I was in the hopes to get your consent to use your worms 2 intro in part of a youtube video. I am modifying a lawn tractor to have ATV tires and a 2000 pound winch along with many other Modifications. I would like to use your intro for the final build reveal. I would like to know what i would need to do to do to get your permission to do this. All credit would ge given. My videos are monetized this helps pay for my weaken hobbies and have no wish to jeopardize the video with a copyright infringement as that kind of thing can be devastating to a small youtube channel like mine.

My youtube channel can be seen here

I thank you for your time in reading this and hope to hear back from you soon.

Ok, So did you attempt to recontact the other company.. See if it was still available? 97 is less then 19 years and while I understand your creative wants and needs, I really would almost just leave this one for dead and cut your losses. I'm not sure your Return on Investment is there ..

I sent a polite request email. That i have no dought do to the small size of my youtube acount will go un noticed. I have started the search for something like this intro to use and my do as he sujested and buy something similar. Hell at this point i might just as some punk rock kid in the area to do a rendition of it for 10.00. I dought it would trigger a copyright hit especially if i remixit in adacity.

copywirte sucks. most people are using copyrited footage just for there video and there not doing it intentionally but they still get copywrite strike
