random rise in views

Hi people is there any way to work out how or why a video has had a sudden rise in views like from 11k to 22 k in about 2 days when the video has been on you tube for over 6 months ?

Yes but only if the analytics are updated. If it is updated, first change the content to only show that particular video here:


Then go to traffic sources:


In traffic sources you should be able to see where the views came from:

Also, If you know the date or day, you could change that to the specified date as well.

its not updated yet I looked before I'm guessing it lags by a day or two

I think the only other way is to google your video url. But that's assuming its not from suggested views but from external sites instead. So yea, analytics is kinda useless when there's a sudden spike like that out of nowhere. I don't know any other way tho. *shrug*

edit: Analytics usually lag 2 days behind. So yea... >.>

the counter has gone up 500 more since i stared this , and I still cant work out why as its a old video

Yeah, if your video ends up there on the sidebar of a much larger channel or video your video will grow quickly too, hopefully it is and stays there for a long time for you
