Question on Sony Vegas - Rendering time?

Okay, just let me know if you need any clarification on the following:

Project Properties
My template is HDV 720p-30p (1280x720, 29.970 fps).
If you still want 1080p, then you just select the one that says HDV 1080p-60i.

Set field order to none (progressive), pixel aspect ratio 1.0000 (square), output rotation 0 degrees (original), I usually set my frame rate to 29.970 (NTSC), and stereoscopic 3D mode off.

Pixel format should be 8-bit, full resolution rendering quality best, motion blur type Gaussian, and Deinterlace method none.

Select start all new projects with these settings.

Render Template
Go to File>Render As

Go to Mainconcept AVC/AAC (.mp4; .avc)>Internet HD 720p (1080p for you)>hit customize template.

Make sure to name your template so that you don't lose it; I name mine YouTube Settings.

Frame size HD 720 (1080 for you), Profile baseline, Frame Rate 29.970 (NTSC), and tick allow source to adjust frame rate.

Pixel aspect ratio 1.0000, number of reference frames 1, encode mode render using CPU only (GPU if you still want to use your graphics card), and enable progressive download.

Now this next part is your money maker right here: variable bit rate maximum 1,500,000 and average 1,350,000.

Include audio in the audio tab, sample rate 48,000 and bit rate 192,000.

In project tab, video rendering quality best, stereoscopic 3D mode use project settings, and color space default.

Now just click ok and use your newly made template to render. I hope this helps you out. If you get stuck on something or it's unclear, just let me know and I can help you out. =)

Alright, I'll try these settings out in a short video and compare the results. I did edit the movie again (had to add intro) but this time I tried it in Windows Movie Maker. It took 33 min and 12 seconds to render the same clip. Considerably less than it did in Sony Vegas 13.

I run 1920x1080p 60fps 12mbps. Now, I'm not sure how to calculate this (and the calculators online seem to be for internet speeds?).. so I'm wondering about something. How much is 8mbps in bps? I'm thinking 1mb is 1000bit, right? So that would be 8000bps for a HD video. Or is it way more? Because the lowest I can go in Sony Vegas is like 760,000 bps or something around there.

I never recommend Windows Movie Maker. I use to use it, but in all honesty, it's so confusing to use. As for your bps question, that sounds about right.

It's confusing to use!? What the hell type of WMM are you using? :| It's like the most easiest thing to use ever. It's even less complicating than an Iphone. I'd say SVP is about 10x more confusing.
Either way, I've used it for a long time and it really does get the job done. But it's lacking heavily in the editing compartment.. which is why I'm trying to get SVP to work instead.

It can't be right tho, even tho it sounds right. I rendered a short video now with the settings you said. But I do have a few questions.

- HDV template didn't have the 1920x1080p resolution, so I opted for the HD template instead. I'm assuming the V stands for video, but I don't really think they're that different?
- Why do you set the "profile" to baseline?
- I've seen a lot of videos where people say you should tick OFF "allow source to adjust frame rate". I record at 60fps, and I want my videos to be same framerate, but incase I for some reason drop frames while playing or something happens, I don't want it to mess up my whole video when rendering.
- What's "enable progressive download" , and why should it be ticked off?

The Mbps you said I should use, gives me horrible quality. I can literally see the pixels in the video and that's not going to work.. I want my quality to be solid, and if you look at some of my videos, you'll see the quality is way to high to be as low as 1,500,000bps. I'm going to try rising it up way higher, because when it's rendered, my video has to have atleast 8000kpbs to be uploaded as 1080p HD quality on Youtube.

EDIT: I rendered with same settings on both. One by using CPU and the other with GPU (CUDA) and the Cuda one is about 10 seconds faster. I guess that would mean a lot if the video was 30 min+

Thanks for the replies btw![DOUBLEPOST=1444779461,1444778704][/DOUBLEPOST]So the reason why I'd never use "Variable bit-rate" is shown pretty well here. First clip was used with variable bit rate (1,500,000bps) and second one was used with a constant bit rate (10,000,000)

If you look closely at the first clip (be sure to put it at highest quality, which is 1080p), you can see that even tho the stuff on the screen is perfectly still, the pixels around it move. This is because the bitrate varies, I assume.

On the second clip, it's totally solid. Ignore the talking btw, it's a random recording I did after loosing a match because of S**T matchmaking :>

FIRST:

And because YTtalk is retarded and doesn't let people post YOUTUBE VIDEOS .... on a YOUTUBE FORUM FOR YOUTUBERS ..... I can't post the videos. Great.

Edit: I did manage to sneak it in by putting tons of spaces in between. You'll have to copy the link and remove the spaces to see it. Or check my channel in "Videos"

Dude, doing what I want to do with my videos does not work with me when using WMM. Sony Vegas is only confusing because people don't know how to use it correctly to get their desired results. It's the same way with Photoshop. And what SVP are you using? Because yes, there is an HDV setting. Yes it does mean video and they are different. If you don't want to allow the source to do that, then untick it. As for frame rates and such, those 29.970, just change them to the 59.940 (double ntsc). Setting profile to baseline means that it's suppose to decrease the CPU usage. A progressive download is a process that allows the user to access content before the data transfer is complete. You're looking for something different, in terms of rendering, and I'm sorry that I haven't been much help. Of course it's going to take a long time to render your videos using you settings because of what you want. There's nothing with that, but you can't have quality and not have a long time to wait on the video to render (unless you get one of those gaming computers or ones that go really fast). I deal with rendering general videos and such, like vlogs, podcasts and music, and it usually works for me. It's a good enough quality for me and I'm fine with it. Again, I'm sorry if this was a waste of your time. We just want different things in our renders.

Yeah but in terms of user friendliness, I'd say WMM is way better than Sony Vegas, but all-in-all SVP is obviously better.

I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 13.
Alright, framerates I'll just set to 60fps. Check!
So I don't have to worry about "Profile" because I'm using GPU. Check!
Progressive download can be ticked off. Check!
Going to take long time to render. Check!
Help received. Check!

No time wasted, I got the template/settings I wanted and now it seems to render about 150 times faster!

Thanks for the help :D

To some degree, I see what you're saying about WMM. Oh that's cool lol. I'm using Sony Vegas Pro 12. I'm glad that I could be of some assistance. Sometimes, all it takes is just playing around with the settings and all. Like, when I used the settings that I did, a 5-minute video went from being over 500MB to being only 56MB. To me, that was a huge difference, the renders and uploads were faster, and I was happy with the quality. If you need anymore help with anything, just let me know and I'll try to assist you the best way I can. I make music, by the way, so you could use my music in your videos if you wanted to. I could even make you music for you. I just thought I'd let you know that. =)

Yeah playing around certainly helped! I did notice the size also changed for the better, which is nice.
Sure, I will!

Cool that you make your own music and actually for other people aswell :D

It definitely is. And thanks. I like to contribute to the community in that way, though no one's really requested it or anything. That's partially why I came to YTtalk. That, and to collaborate, interact, and share ideas and such.
