Question for Second Language Learners

Man, there are so many friggin' languages I wanna learn. Honestly just language and the origins of words are SUPER interesting to me, but especially so with non-latin-based languages. Cyrillic alphabets are amazing and I want to learn Russian so bad, I just always get distracted!

DUDE join the club! I would love to spend all of my time just learning different languages :) Do you speak any languages currently?

Besides English, I'm really only fluent in pig-latin. There are bits and pieces of French I remember from highschool and I have a SUPER basic understanding of Russian grammar, but that's about it. :'(

Well, English is not my first language but since I've been using it for years now even if I don't need to, I guess I still count as learning it? Anyway, before I started Youtube 2 months ago, I had a problem where I tend to speak too fast and it ended up messing with my pronunciation of some big words. Now, I still stutter but not as much as I did a few months ago. I mostly owe it to doing Youtube.

Duncan, thank you very much for this comment! That's interesting that Dutch speaked struggle with the ch sound. Is there a reason for that? I.e does the sound not exist at all in Dutch or something? What do Dutch people tend to say instead of ch?

I watched your "Dumb People on the Internet video" about 3 times now to see what pronunciation tips I could give you. Generally, your pronunciation is very good! You sound more British than American I would say. 1 piece of advice to help you sound more native: be mindful of how you pronounce the letter "p". Often you are either:

1. Pronouncing the p as a "b" sound.
2. Pronouuncing the p without any "aspiration". In other words, if you were go put your hand directly in front of your mouth as you say a "p", you wouldn't feel any air hit your hand. In English, a "p" should have aspiration. In other words, it''s almost like a "p" with a small "h" sound right after.

If you have snapchat, I can snap you a video outlining the differences between what you're doing, and what a native speaker would do, if you want :)

Wow, I didn't think you would actually help me out! Thank you so much for that. I think the second part is very true and I'll try and change it! Oh and thank you for complimenting me haha, it means a lot to me. Again, thank you for watching my video! Since you watched it about 3 times... I hope you enjoyed watching it atleast once haha

When I learned Swedish as a 3rd, using their number 7 as an example, the "sj" in "sju" is difficult for me. Got made fun of a lot by the locals for that hahaha In Korean, the L R soft roll I'm struggling with. Growing up speaking Tagalog makes my R's roll hard but their L/R is somewhere literally between L and R as far as pronunciation goes.
Okay.. sweedish is pretty similar to danish and I can totally relate :D the worst moment when you say something to them and they are looking at you : what language are you speaking now??? :DDD[DOUBLEPOST=1472990886,1472990697][/DOUBLEPOST]Well my first language is lithuanian, my second is english.. my third is russian ( which I am not perfect at speaking anyway) and I was learning spanish for quite some time and now since I live in Denmark I am trying to learn danish..

which is hellish .. you can't pronounce a single word without embarrassing yourself..and most of their words.. they are so so so different form my language and how it sounds that it becomes almost impossible for me to pronounce them :)) but I still try very hard and if you really want.. NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE haha :)

Ooh I see. Well, if you have an interest in languages, it may not be a bad idea to check out some of the videos on my channel, and subscribe if you like what you see. It could be a light-weight way for you to improve some of your language abilities and feed your passion for languages! :)
Cool beans man, I'll check you out~

When I followed german classes in high school, my teacher always berated me for my pronounciation of the ß. Apparently it wasn't sharp enough. Even though I couldn't hear the difference and still can't.

That is my main issue with learning languages, I think. Really hearing the difference between different pronounciations and then correcting yourself. It's hard to hear in the moment, when I'm speaking myself, but if I where to listen back to myself on tape, I do notice it.

Absolutely. This is especially tough if you're not 100% fluent in the language to start with, because you have to think not only about how to pronounce the word, but also how to say the sentence/word you're trying to say!

Do you speak any other languages right now apart from German?[DOUBLEPOST=1473020716,1473020655][/DOUBLEPOST]

Funnily, out of all the languages I know, I'm probably the worst at German. Dutch is my mother tongue, but I'm quite fluent in English. Even though, listening back to my videos, reveals an accent of whihc I didn't know it was that strong. I also have a minimal knowledge of French. I can understand a basic conversation and I can order ice cream in French, the latter is of course the most important. :p
