Question about Music and Monetisation

ItsBecky

Internet Idiot who loves making people laugh
I always use the youtube audio library for music for my videos, but I was wondering if it is possible to play music from my ipod or something in the background, while filming a video and still be able to monetise the video.
I have tried using music from my itunes library in the past and it's always said i have to remove the music if I want to monetise the video so I do
Is there a way around this?

You could look for music that is royalty free. Or music in general that is "free to use" all you have to do is give credit who the artist is.

You could try and cheat the system by making sure that there's no part in the video where just the music is playing, otherwise, it'll be copyright claimed

I think that the only way to use a copyrighted song is to contact the copyright holder about the song but getting the rights of a song can be pretty expensive.
Someone contacted Sony Music and they said that the estimated price for one song is 2500-5000 USD for 5-10 years.

I'm not sure if "for 5-10 years" means that you have to pay it again after 5-10 years or just can use the song for 5-10 years.

No, you can not use songs from your iTunes, you don't own the rights to them.

You can either continue using YouTube's music as you have been, use royalty free music, or join a network that has a music library for you to use.

Otherwise, YouTube will flag it immediately, you won't be able to monetize it, and possibly even worse.

Stupid question I know but how do I find royalty free music that isn't in the YouTube library?
I wasn't going to do it and if I did I wouldn't monetise it I just noticed people who have done videos with music from iPods and stuff playing in the background, and I wondered if they were able to monetise their video or not
Someone suggested music in the background of my videos to keep people's attention this is why I asked.

YouTube's audio library and Incompetech are 2 places where you can download royalty free music.
If you're Partnered with a Network, there's a chance that they also have audio libraries where you can download the music for free. Example: Fullscreen allows me to download audio from Audiomicro and Jingle Punks.

Another site where you can find talented artists that make music is Newgrounds, but make sure that you contact the artist about the song before you use it in your video so you know if you're allowed to use it (commercially) or not.

There were also some members that suggested SoundCloud in other threads but I have no idea how the licenses from SoundCloud work.

I'm currently not part of any network I also haven't even been asked to join by any of them yet haha, i don't want to join a network right now anyway as i barely earn anything as it is and the network takes another half of the money but I have heard they do an audio library, youtube have added some more songs to their library anyway so I guess I will just keep using that for now
