Question about capture cards

Switchbox

Give me your food
So I recently bought a new capture card that could record at 60mbps (Avermedia Live Gamer or something)
But before I used Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gamind Edition Pro, and I honestly think that gave me better visuals than this new one, even though it only records at 15mbps!

So I don't know what to do.
The avermedia is easier to set up, but I don't want to use it if it gives me worse video quality than my previous capture card.

But I don't understand how it can be worse, when it has 45 more mbps than the Hauppauge one.

Maybe you haven't touched the settings the right way yet? Poke around and experiment with settings, Or google around your issue and see if other agree.
I have everything at max settings.
Maybe I coveret to a wrong format or something. The avermedia is powered by USB while the Hauppauge is powered with an external power supply. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Well considering most games don't even run that high.. I'd be surprised if you even needed to put it all the way up to 60 :'D

You should have got Elgato if recording console since it can do up to 60fps as well. AverMedia support is dead since they took their forums down a good few months ago for "maintenance" but you can still contact their support I think. What's wrong with the quality? Are you using .mp4? Or the .t whatever it is? lol

If he's not using the .MP4 that will be the problem, if he is I have no idea what's wrong.

I didn't think Elgato could record up to 60? I thought it was 16?

Don't need 60FPS cause of YouTube :p
I think it's mp4, but I have my doubts since it doesnt load the audio file in Sony Vegas.

Sony vegas doesn't always like .MP4 files, so it could be your editing software that's causing the problems. But double check your saving the recording in the right format. If you are and the quality is still horrible try another software. (get a trial of premiere or something as it accepts most file formats).

If the same file looks fine in the new software but terrible in vegas you know the problem. If it the same in both it could be the capture card or settings.

60fps is actually beneficial to the editing stage, it's highly required if you want to do slow motion but it also creates a smoother video while editing. There's also no change in file size between 30fps and 60fps since you're using .mp4 format. At the sametime I like having more frames because I have more time and space to work within 60 frames as opposed to 30, I dunno why I just prefer it that way. I always try to record in 60fps as much as I can or 59.94 since Premiere throws a hissy at 60fps for some reason, like the extra .06 of a frame is too much to handle. lol

Also if I recall AverMedia have made their devices more compatible with 3rd party software like OBS you could try that I guess. It's really annoying how some software reacts differently to different files or frames. Is the actual recording itself looking bad or is it only in Vegas?
