Quality v quantity

I'm always going to put quality first, without a doubt. Quantity is important, but only because YouTube promotes your videos more the more you upload.
 
I'm currently at a point with my channel where I am starting to get some good views and subscribers but I am wondering what is better - more content but average quality, or less uploads but really great quality videos.

What do you think about this? I am still undecided at the moment but I personally enjoy taking the time and making great videos that I am proud of.

Please let me know your thoughts!
 
I will always say that high quality content is best however it depends how infrequent the uploads become. I'd say try at least do one video a week then work on upping while keeping the quality you want. Just my thoughts :)
 
PLOT TWIST - BOTH but really theyre both important as ive said before though just because a channel has quantity doesnt mean the content will lack quality. i dont know where everyone gets this idea from. This is not ALWAYS the case
 
Figured Id make this topic because I was interested in everyones thoughts about it. Now I know for whatever reason "Quality over Quantity" is a phrase that has become quite popular over time and people rave over it time and time again.But when it comes to youtube and building a channel is it TRULY more valuable than quantity? Now listen im not claiming that quality doesnt matter because it DOES play a big role in many channels.But I think it is a bit overrated. How many creators do you know who's channels have failed because they had POOR quality content and that ALONE being the sole reason that their channel failed. Not to mention a factor that is BIASE and usually judged by VIEWERS not the CREATOR themselves.Compared to channels that have failed from a lack of QUANTITY or CONSISTENCY there are little to NONE. The truth is CONSISTENCY is the #1 Leading factor to channels ultimately being unsuccessful. Ive noticed this over years and years of watching youtube and creators. I cant TELL you how many times ive found a channel with HORRIBLE content quality but due to them being consistent over a SUBSTANTIAL amount of time. They have STILL managed to build a legitimate following. There is literally a handful of cases where ive seen channels that have been successful over QUALITY alone for example "A Bad Lip Reading" a very popular channel on youtube DESPITE the fact that they do not post videos on a regular basis. The fact of the matter is it doesnt matter how GREAT your quality of content is if you lack quantity it will be DIFFICULT to build a following they both go hand and hand. BUT if I were to pick one to make or break a channel QUANTITY is DEFINITELY more valuable. I believe it is highly underestimated. Im not saying focus ONLY on output but I believe people care TOO much about how good a single video is instead of just putting out content.
 
Thing is alot of it is being happy with what you post if you work better with one video a month dont change it to four a month for the sake of it, most people would prefer to be known as that once a month uploader who creates amazing content vs someone who forces four a month and the content is kinda hit or miss and kinda meh.

true i can understand that perspective i made this from wanting a successful channel perspective and also very few people can make amazing videos most people dont have the resources to make really high quality content especially the caliber it would have to be if youre only uploading once a month? thats a rare case that wouldnt apply to most creators. I think people associate spending MORE time on a video will make it better but that isnt always the case. appreciate the feedback!
 
I think that phrase is taken as "don't make s**t videos". Don't upload stuff that you aren't proud to upload. Put some work into your videos. Don't sacrifice quality to rush out a video. In the end it's somewhere in the middle that produces success for most people. Someone who uploads the same s****y minecraft letsplay for everyday for 10 years is not going to be as successful as someone who uploads once a week and puts time and effort into their videos and getting better
 
I dont understand the flood of gaming youtubers these days. Editing 1 0 1 is WATCH YOUR OWN CONTENT! Its really that simple... if something seems boring and is full of silence then DO not have it make the cut (especially if it has a face cam)... Face cam is obsolete if you dont talk.. and what usually would separate you from the rest, is not the gameplay itself. Its editing / comedy / personality! Oh and dont be that type of youtuber who rely's on your accent to attract views... its starting to get annoying. So i'm ALL for quality... Think of youtube as you opening a store... would you want your merchandise to be crap when you put it on the shelves? or would you rather it have that quality that will keep customers buying?

Yeah I agree with you. I do post around 3/4 times a month but my videos production is extremely minimal so it's easy to make 4 videos - production wise. The hardest part about creating videos for my channel is that I'm a perfectionist so my editing and my "comedic timing" (fan quote) has to be perfect

As many gamers as there are on YouTube I have come across very few who are as talented/entertaining as I see myself as. I'm not trying to put my ego up but my content is very different from most gaming channels (I actually wouldn't really classify myself as a "gaming" channel because I rarely focus on the game and do more than gaming videos) in that my videos are usually fast paced, comedic (this is probably the most rare), and always well edited from the music to the overlays. With that being said I do realize my content does not appeal to everyone from my jokes or the fact I only really play Action games (Battlefield, GTA, dead island etc) .

When it comes to the 'flood' you speak of, I feel like everyone is trying to be their favorite youtuber 2.0. Instead of ripping them off do what I did and take 'inspiration' from many of your favorite youtubers and build yourself from there.
The best way I can explain it is look at YouTube as Hollywood. Remakes are never as good as the original.
