I've Got It
So last night I went rummaging through the 60 or so videos that I had posted from before I quit YouTube the first time. What I found were a bunch of big "no-nos" in video uploading. 45 minute gaming vids, lots of silent spots, and just general awkwardness. Each video had anywhere from 50-125 views but I just didn't like it since I was taking my channel in a new direction and these videos had such low retention rates. I scraped them all including my one dog video that has like 40k views so that I could get real data on my channel in it's current incarnation. Anyone else ever do this?
 
Nah i just created a whole new channel,

Well admittedly i did change genre of video so made more sense...

I used to (maybe one day will continue) to make gaming videos on my original youtube and i got to 700 subs and almost 400k views but sort of grew out of gaming.

I found it easier to create a whole new channel which is where i am today lmaooo
 
I done something similar with the old YTtalk channel, it was made up of members from YTtalk and the channel never had proper consistency, I never had the proper amount of time it needed to do videos, the videos I made myself I wouldnt dare upload these days, my views on quality have changed a lot since then too. In the end I deleted the channel, it wasnt properly representing YTtalk and to me it felt tacky overally because of the inconsistency, it was one week me, then another someone else and then a few months later the someone else came back, it just didnt work out very well. The idea was good but poorly executed.
 
I am about to do this, but with a twist.

I continue to get a lot of views to my channel, but the videos are controversial.

And I promised (to my wife) to keep the content not controversial.

The solution is simple:

Switch publicly listed videos to unlisted in the Video Manager - like this:

I did a complete switch of genre and so i set all my old videos to private. You can only see my new videos now and the stats that i'm getting are also accurate to my new videos since there can no longer be any interaction with my older videos.
If i made a new channel I'd have to browse in my current channel(cuz i already have all my subscriptions on this account) and upload in the other one, which is a hassle. So I just did a reset on the same channel because I wanted to keep all my browsing and uploading in one channel.

I will try to keep this short.

I am the most skeptical (yet optimistic) person on the planet.

Yet my wife is the opposite - the most politically correct person on the planet.

I never run from conflict.

My wife avoids conflict like the plague.

To give you an idea, she would pay anyone $5 to return merchandise to a store.

On the flip side, I returned my 27-year old coat to an LLBean store... they have a lifetime warranty... the zipper broke... I got a new jacket gratis.

(My wife still shakes her head about that one:>)

I thought opposites attract. So I married her - coming up on 20 years, too.

But...

The videos I (used to) put out are "do-not-go-there" topics...

Like why I do not go to doctors.

Like why I think buying a house (for most people) is a bad investment these days...

Like why I think going to college is a scam (for most people)...

Like why I think 401k plans are a ripoff (for most people)...

Etc.

These are VERY emotional topics...

And emotional people do not act rationally.

They almost always shoot the messenger - me.

And they never look at things logically.

Also, most sponsors (those that pay us for content creation) avoid unauthorized controversy at all costs.

(By the way, racism and transgender/gay issues and climate change are all authorized divide-and-conquer controversies.)

As the movie A Few Good Men is famous for being quoted:

"You can't handle the truth."

It took me the better part of 45 years to figure this out.

So now, my videos hint about controversial topics... in very tiny doses.

This sucks out loud to me.

I feel as though I have sold out.

I am still blown away that adults these days are so unwilling to open their mind.

From a mission-in-life perspective, I do not feel good about this.

But my wife is too important to me right now.

And ever since I made the switch, life is a LOT easier.

Ever since I wiped the slate clean, my wife is comfortable referring her friends to my channel.

And she is becoming comfortable explaining what I do for a living.

And when she is happy, I am happy.

Punchline: if I could turn back time, I would not have hooked up with the most politically correct person on the planet.

It should always be that way if she is a good wife and you love her.

I get what you're saying, and my wife is like that too to some extent. Never wants to rock the boat in any way imaginable. This is part of the reason that I keep all of my channels completely secret from friends and family. I do not appear in them so there is no reason for my wife to be bothered by backlash or comments, etc (which rarely happens anyway with my content). She doesn't look at my videos on Youtube (she'll review them before I post sometimes) or read the comments. She doesn't mind being willfully ignorant of such things.

How does she do that anyway? I myself have a little trouble explaining it without sounding like I don't have a 'real' job.

My past videos were so controversial, she would not even show it to my sons.

But since the "switch", my videos are positive. And she enjoys them. She even helps a bit to make 'em. My last video even featured her hugging me - something I never thought would happen in my lifetime.

Like I said above, I am really bummed that I cannot express myself 100% honestly.

I am forced to hold back, because today's society has been programmed to avoid critical thinking.

They have been mind tricked into thinking that anything not spewed by the media is kooky or a conspiracy theory.

Maybe one day this will change back to the way it used to be.

I am crossing my fingers.
 
Is it me or is it magic or something that the more videos you watch and then looking at old video's you have done you start realising the error of your ways when doing future videos.
My biggest flaws I am always aware of saying "you know" and "ok". :P
