PS4 external recording?

ZombieSegway

Posting Mad!
So whenever I google this all I can find is posts from months ago with no specific date of when they will be making it possible to use external recorders such as hauppage. Does anyone know when they will be letting people use external records to record ps4 gameplay? :)

The best thing for you to do is probably to get a HDMI splitter anyway because it allows you to perform other things like doing livestreams easier. You are basically gaining the ability to use two HDMI ports instead of one and allows you to still have the game on your screen instead of relying on the capture device. If the capture device crashes then your game will be messed up but with a HDMI splitter you can keep the game running on your TV as the other HD port on the splitter goes to your capture device. Well worth the money.

They just said that to ensure they don't lose any sales whatso-ever.
I'm sure they weren't even planning on allowing this bypass to begin with.

But be careful since SONY is not officially supporting HDMI strippers and even call it "illegal" at some point. This makes sense because by recording HD-Gameplay of the PS4 you will break the still valid HDCP regulation, which is in fact breaking the law.
I have a PS4 too and can't wait but I'll have to because I don't want to get into any trouble.

With Sony actually following certain popular Youtubers via Twitter and then seeing those Youtubers play the next gen games I can safely tell you that there is no cause for concern.

Isn't it current gen now? :p

Hardy har :3 but seriously if on the uber rare occasion they flag your stuff and not theirs then just remember that you have a strong case and evidence to defend yourself. Also remember that lowering the game audio and topping it with continuous commentary that provides CRITIQUE and EDUCATION will also protect you under fair use law.

A lot of popular Youtubers actually get away with it because companies see these digital creators as cattle to help them make money. RadBrad and others for instance get away with it in spades by only providing 'reaction commentary' which for the most part isn't supposed to be allowed but hey money is money.

There is no current date. This is part of the reason I avoided the PS4 sadly. Sony need to get their s**t together. 2 consoles in a row MS have had without HDCP. 2 consoles in a row Sony have had with HDCP, PS3 was okay-ish cause you could use component but PS4 is purely HDMI.

It's actually a bit of a grey area. HDCP exists to protect movies/tv shows. Not entirely gaming. It was put in place to stop people from using capture devices to record blu rays or DvDs and distribute them. HDCP strippers from what I'm aware of are illegal in some places. HDMI splitters on the other hand are not. Essentially they do the same thing but as long as you're not recording movies or tv shows and distributing them you'll be fine. Otherwise no 1 would be posting PS4 footage on YouTube.

They weren't, they only announced it like a day after MS announced they wouldn't have HDCP.

Playstation lies all the time, and that's why I'm trying to sell my ps4. They promised this back in January.
Also, I record with my ps4, so check out my channel on how to record with an elgato. You need to buy a special splitter.
