Profanity and getting age restricted?

Kaleido

I Love YTtalk
Let me start by saying; I curse. A lot. This ends up in my videos because I don't feel the need to censor myself whatsoever, so I just speak like I normally do.

I didn't care at all about the Age Restriction thing, because I don't care if little kids can't watch my videos. In fact, they definitely shouldn't. I like saying f**k a lot.

But I found out recently that the age restriction means you can't monetize your videos. This makes me a little paranoid, but my channel isn't big enough to make money anyway, and too small for anyone to notice/report my choice of words...

But today, I read a thread on Reddit about someone who was getting 25k views a day, and when one of his videos, which he described as 'slight adult humor' with no profanity, got age restricted. He got removed from the Suggested videos and now gets 4k views a day. It's terrifying that a single age restricted video can completely wreck your channel like that. Granted, I didn't watch the video, maybe it is that offensive, but still, this cranked my paranoia into serious overdrive.

Aren't there big Youtubers that curse? Do they just take action if someone is offended/reports the video? Do I have to start censoring my videos? (I really, REALLY don't want to censor anything, I want to be myself)

Anyone have any experience with the age restriction policy? The support page describes it as 'excessive profanity' but that's very nebulous and could mean anything (like more than one 'f**k', like PG-13 ratings). There's no clear guideline on how much is 'too much'...

Game Grumps are vulgar as Hell, and their videos are monetized.

lolzzzz in my case, I won't censor the word F**k, I didnt even age restricted my videos! Hahaha!
So I wont promote on reddit :D
I would say do what u enjoy :D

Yea, that's what I was thinking about. There's a few huge channels like Game Grumps that curse a lot and it seems fine, which makes the guidelines even less clear...

I guess I won't worry about it for now. I don't make sexual jokes and never direct my profanity at anyone (usually just inanimate objects). Hopefully I don't get flagged...

Pretty much depends if you get mass flagged or not. 2 of my animations had less bloodshed than happy tree friends, but both got age restricted (and one video was a strike, on 2 separate occasions, although i disputed the strike twice successfully it remains age restricted). Meanwhile HTF continues to earn money with gorey vids with no issue. Go figure.

I don't have much knowledge or experience with age restriction, but yeah, there are a ton of big YouTubers that swear (some do censor) and deal with slightly non-PG material, and their stuff is still spread and monetized.

There are many advertisers who don't want to be presented on channels that are 18+. Yes, there are lots and lots of channels with vulgarity but we don't know if they are getting the best paying ads.

If it isn't natural for you to censor yourself, then you probably shouldn't do it.

Yea, I mean, I can do it in post, but I hate editing audio... I definitely don't want to be thinking about "omg don't curse" while I'm filming. There's already enough on my mind lol

If you have to force yourself not to swear, then don't bother, I've seen plenty of big Youtubers who swear all the time. Though I don't know if the circumstances of their situation, may have to do with the network they're partnered with or not.
