Privatizing Old Videos?

It deducts it from the total views on your channel. The views on the video will still be there. But it won't count towards your total view count
They must have changed it recently than, now I cant make my videos unlisted and then back to public to do testing and SEO if I discover something better once the video has been posted.

I've done it for lots of my old videos. I had lots of crap gaming videos and bad and awkward vlogs XD Not what I do now, so I unlisted them. Just for memories sake :)

I'd keep my old videos, only except for maybe one since it's very old and irrelevant. Most of my old videos seem to be more successful than my recent ones, so I'd like to keep them out, plus (imho) it is one of the pinnacles of my YouTube success back then so I'd like to keep that as a memoir. :)

You will lose your video count and the view count that comes with it.
True, but I think in the analytics of your YouTube channel, there will be a LifeTime views count, which is the total amount of views your channel's videos have gotten. If I'm not mistaken, I think you get those view counts back when you make the video public again?

I made the first bit of my videos private because I wanted them for memories and stored them in a playlist labeled "Archive." I may show them later to subscribers if I make it big.

I used to tell people to delete their old stuff and just keep a couple to show how much better you've become. But since people reminded me about making videos Unlisted, that's a great idea! This way they are still uploaded with their original published date. If anybody happened to steal your video, you would still have your old one saved on YouTube to prove that your video was first.

I don't think I'm ever going to delete videos. They show my improvement over the months. Even when I subscribe to a channel I'd like to watch their very first video to see how they started out. :)

Hello Everyone,

So I have some old videos on my channel that don't really relate to what my channel is about now. When I go to some of my favorite YouTubers Channel's I see that their first videos are related to what their channel is about now. Do you think I should privatize my older videos? Not all of them, just the old bad quality ones that don't relate to me anymore. I'm not concerned about loosing potential views. If I privatize those videos, will they still count towards my video count?

Tell me what you think.

Thanks,
Gunnishone :)

Yes, if you private your videos it will lose your total video view count. We have the same problem but I would keep them public on your channel so it is a reminder of how far you have gotten over the weeks and months of your channel.
