Premiere Pro Problems

I just bought a new LapTop in December. An HP Envy. 12 Gigs of RAM, a video/graphics card... This thing is made to edit video.

But I'm on my third Episode, and granted, these videos are intense because I have two timelines stacked on top of each other to make the characters look like they are interacting, This computer shouldn't have a problem handling it with all it's processing power, right?

The source clip window and the Timeline itself was super Laggy, so much to the point where I can't edit. Yes I render the timeline when I'm sure I have the clips I want, but I want to be able to preview them first.

The first two episodes this wasn't a problem... anybody know what's going on? I cleared the cache files too... any idea how to optimize this laptop for video editing? Help is greatly appreciated!

I have not... instructions to do that? I'm sure that would help, I've been googling around and this topic seems to get a whole mix of answers

Okay so, in Premiere where your video is being displayed, on the bottom right you'll see a spanner icon which is the settings of the playback. Click that and look for playback resolution then you can change it between Full, 1/2, 1/4 and so on. I use 1/4 while editing. It'll make the video way more pixely but that won't be representative of the final production obviously. When you finish editing and render everything before exporting it should display properly at full resolution.

I'm pretty new to Premiere myself and had the same lag problem when using neat video. This fixed it so hopefully it does for you :)

Right, I new that was an option somewhere but couldn't find it for the life of me... I'll give it a go. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling last night and it seemed to be working just fine after that, but I don't want to run into this problem again...

Thanks, I'll try it out![DOUBLEPOST=1424787972,1424787867][/DOUBLEPOST]Does that work for the playback for the timeline AND the source clip though? cause it's extremely laggy in the preview window before I even drop it into the timeline... lags hard in the source clip window as well...

Sorry I don't know about the source clip problems, only thing I can think of is opening up task manager while editing and see what your system is doing, sorry man.

What formats are you using in the timeline? How were they captured/recorded? Premiere can be a little finicky with what it likes having in its timeline. If the line above is red or yellow, it means there's an issue with playback/preview.

I render frequently when I am editing in Premier Pro (Render Effects In to Out or something like that), especially if I have put in effects such as color correction. I find that too many non-rendered actions slow the software down a lot. Once I render, everything goes back to normal.
