Posting in forums. Yay or Nay?

LemmaDiaries

Loving YTtalk
I personally say yay, with a couple of buts....

1) The forum must be relevant to your video
2) Don't spam.

I recently posted some vlogs from a recent cruise we took. It occurred to me to post the links to these on the forum I had been posting before we travelled, so that they might use the vlogs as a kind of video trip report. So far the effect on my views has been very positive, I'm more views on those videos in a day than I am in a week on the rest of my channel.

Just wondered what everyone else's view was?

Yay!!!

Only some but's....
If you are truely a part of a community, then it's very easy to put some vids on it and people will surely watch it.
Forums you don't know yet, as a newcomers posting vids will be seen as spammy. Your best shot is to react to relevant topics...

Never directly promoted my videos on forums I think.... BUT on this forum I have gotten some AWESOME subscribers just by beeing a part of the community ya know? getting cool feedback from ppl in same situation who want to help out and stuff is allways awesome too! never even talked about youtube on other forums and stuff :p

but I say GO for it :Das long as it' srelevant!

Posting on forums? HELL YES!

But forum definitely should be relevant and self-promo friendly.
Yeah, definitely.
I think the number one rule about posting on forums is :
1. If you want people to check you out - than check others out as well! : )

500% agree with all of this.

Update: post on that forum meant that one of my videos is now over 100 views for the first time! Squee! (it's the most insignificant thing ever lol, but it made me happy!)[DOUBLEPOST=1423342293,1423341927][/DOUBLEPOST]

LOL I think this is what I was trying to put across in my OP, however I wrote that at 3am, so it probably wasn't my best work haha!

The forum I posted on is one of the most popular on the net for cruisers. I've been on there for a while now, they helped me a lot when I was planning my first cruise last year. I even got to meet some of the members whilst aboard the ship! So yeah it's community I'm definitely a part of. People have responded well to the videos there too, and keen to see the rest of this series.

But I fully agree if I wasn't already involved there it could have gone very differently.[DOUBLEPOST=1423342488][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah as I say this is a forum for people who love cruising, so posting our cruise vlogs there was definitely not out of place. I only referred to my channel once in the post, I just thought the people there might enjoy them as something similar to a trip report, which seems to be the case so far.

Yeah, this place is definitely awesome. I've a gained a couple of subscribers whil being here, but more importantly I've learnt TONNES. :D

Off topic: Cruising, I did it the first time 3 months ago. I was like.... It's alrightish, i liked it... yeah like that... Cruise fever for me? Meh... So when I disembarked the ship and flew back home I started missing the life on a cruise ship

Now I have dreamt about cruising like at least 8 times, always looking on internet for a new cruise possibility and really want to go on a cruise again. I think I caught the cruise fever!! Everyday there is a moment where I think back about the cruise and the very nice moments on the cruise! Something like home sick towards a cruise (better than seasick).

The sights of entering or leaving a port. The sunrise/sunset. The sound of the ocean. The food. The entertainment. The casino :angelic2:. The sunbathing or swimming. Not worried about internet. My daughter being happy. The sky full of stars, never seen so many stars in my life! (No, not intented to promote my newest vid). Not worried about daily life. This is definately not the last time I cruise!!!

Okay ontopic.... Putting your cruise vlog as a newcomer onto a cruise forum, i think it's alright.

OFF TOPIC: Cruise Fever!! I definitely know the feeling lol! I loved it so much I'm hoping to return this summer (this is if I can raise the money!) I loved it as soon as I got on, I kept saying at the end of the week that I'm probably addicted to cruising now! It's great that you came to enjoy it. Which ship were you on? (Our's was the NCL Epic, incredible, planning to go back to the same one!)

ON TOPIC: I had posted there before, but not recently. I guess it was the first time with my channel that I found an audience for one of our niches? It definitely won't be the last lot of cruise vlogs that pop up on our channel, so it's nice to have a bunch of people who will be receptive to those. :)

OFF TOPIC; I hope you live in USA, where the cruises are substantially cheaper! The cruise fever sometimes makes me ill in a good way :D. I went on the RCCL Oasis of the Seas, from Europe to Florida USA transatlantic. Too bad no RCCL ships ports in my home country. It's great you are enjoying your cruise holiday too.

ON TOPIC: I did not investigate Youtube for cruise vlogs but my common sense tells me that those vlogs might be a niche. Reason for that is that the cruisers are usually older people (with too much money). They are less connected to internet unlike people like us. And the lack of internet onboard also comes into play. Not every Youtuber cruises, so less content about cruise.

The only mayor downside is, if you really want to make a weekly/monthly volg about cruising, that's going to be very expensive

OFF TOPIC: We live in the UK, however NCL is surprisingly affordable (they're an american company so I think that has something to do with it, we do well out of the exchange rate lol), and their solo travelling experience is one of the best out there. I'd love to try RCCL at some point. Right now as a solo cruiser they are wayyyy too expensive for me. But one day.... *sigh*.

ON TOPIC: It's definitely not all we do! Neither of us have the budget for that!! we have other travel vlogs and tips (eg. we vlogged our trip to Paris in Feb last year, and vlogged some tips about that) as well as tips of places to visit in our own country. We also talk a lot about theatre (something we've been involved in for well over a decade now!) as ausience members and as actors. All that with a heavy side of us dicking about. XD

And you'd be surprised how many older people actually post on these forums. Granted I doubt I'll make subscribers out of them any time soon, but it's an ideal place to get views! Besides, I'm happy with any sort of growth at the moment. And there are a fw cruise vlogs out there, if you search for them. :) (I dfinitely haven't watched a couple tonight out of cruise sickness... course not...)
