Pop Filters.

Loving YTtalk
I have never actually owned or used a pop filter. I have used the Blue Yeti for a year now and I don't know if I should get one. I know for some mics they are practically required, but with the Yeti I don't know. Besides the muffling of P's and T's what do they do? Do you use a pop filter? What type of mic? Recommendations? Could I benefit from one based on my current audio quality?

All they do is block air from your mouth hitting the mic causing distortion when you say certain words with "p"s, "t"s and "b"s. They don't do much other than that.

Ah! Thank you! Since you seem to know a little about this could you perhaps listen to a more recent video of mine and see if I could benefit from one?

Honestly, if you don't use a proper condenser, there's no reason to use one, and even then, a T-shirt stretched across something like a wire coathanger works just as well, as long as it is stretched fully!

Is the Yeti not a proper condenser microphone? Oh! I didn't know you could do that! Thank you :D

Yes it is. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1404600042,1404599941][/DOUBLEPOST]Honestly from watching your latest video (Castle Build) you don't seem to need one. :)

Pop filters are primarily a close range tool. Condenser mics are intended for and function best when used within about 6 inches of distance between the sound source (your mouth) and the mic itself. The closer you can get, the warmer and more powerful the sound. Of course, the closer you get, the more force of air you produce which causes the pops on certain hard consonant sounds.

The Yeti is often used by people at a 12 inch or further range despite its' tendancy to pick up keyboard noise. When you're a foot away from the microphone, the force of air from your mouth disappates long before it hits the mic diaphragm, making a pop filter unneccesary.

Thank you do much for clearing that up!

Hejka, pozdrowienia z piernikowego Torunia!
