depends on what consol you plan on playing. You can play old games via an emulator and roms.

Master system-----Ninja, R-Type, My Hero, Ghouls and Ghosts, Alex the kid enchanted castle, Wonder Boy 2 is pretty much impossible

Loads more old games I cant think this morning lol

Playstation----you could do Heart of Darkness.....veerrrrrry hard game, Ooze....another hard game, Crash bandicoot games getting all gems and relics (This requires you acing the bonus levels too)

This is an absolutely fantastic list. Thank you so much. I really want to just play the hardest games I can find. I feel like I've been slacking as a gamer with all these easy titles lately!
 
Alien: Isolation on Nightmare Mode will make you want to commit acts of revenge against the creators of the game for making it :p It's the most difficult game I can think of that I own or ever played. It's not the dying so much as the restarting that will get you p****d off because you will know you are screwed and your life is over before you can do anything about it. I'd say wait until the game is on sale though. Like under 20 bucks because when you beat the game on your first time on Nightmare mode you will most likely NOT want to play it again and/or will regret buying it.

Omg I've watched people play that! Dear God it looks hard and terrfying!!! The AI being smart is even worse! Bahahah
 
It's a tough question. For me when people say really hard games, I think stuff like CS:GO, DOTA 2 and LOL multiplayer. The learning curve is so steep it's incredibly hard to be good at those games.

If you don't mind being "one of those people" you could try nightmare mode or 20/20/20 mode in five nights at freddys.

You are defo gunna need to focus on the old consols then including the ZX spectrum. Games back then very rarely had passwords or even the option to save. So to complete it you had to liturally be a master. i dont even know how I completed half the games as a kid now when I play them again.
