You will definitely need to shield it from wind. The mics are very sensitive. You will want to mount it on a stand or tripod because it will pick up even the slightest sounds from holding it in your hand. If you are using it in windy conditions (even a slight breeze), you will want to use an external mic hooked up to it and shield the external mic with a "dead cat" or other windscreen as needed. Ambient noise from a room will depend on the size and "reflectivity" of the room. So make sure you check the room for sound reflection with a test recording and put up egg crate or hang sheets around the area (out of camera view if using it for audio capture) to minimise echo.
