Their musical artist are allowed to cover the songs, yes, but that's something completely different. That doesn't mean they can just use the original in any way, shape or form. Yes, he probably has the rights, but not through that deal.


According to many sources (e.g. Billboard.com, Hollywood reporter, etc.) the deal covers the monetization of original soundtracks throughout their entire musical library, which also allows covers to be monetized.

The same article published on multiple sites (check under the headline) isn't many sources, it's one source. One source that is wrong in this point. I'd rather stick to what the networks themselves tell their partners what they can and can't do than to second hand information...
 
It's weird to me because he uses songs that he only referenced improvisationally in the moment. So the idea of him seeking out the rights to songs that he only decided to use in the same day he made and uploaded the video--is hard to believe.
