People YouTubing For The Money

Subscribers aren't a indicator of much money someone makes. Someone with a million subscribers could make less money then someone with 100k.

No, subscribers aren't an indicator for how much someone makes. But views are. If a channel is monetized and every new video gets about 50.000 views on average, that's at least 50 dollars earned from that one video (assuming a RPM of 1 dollar per 1000 views, which is very low). Certainly not a figure you can pay the rent with, but also not a figure I've managed to scrounge together from just one video yet.

True. I'm just saying that people are gaining subscribers are a faster pace then ever. When Fred hit million subs he had several hundred million views and his videos were getting 5 million views on average. Now people are hitting 1 million subs with as low as 20 million views. There are even channels with 100k subs that only have around 1 million views. But of course people look at the subs at assume that because they have 100k subs or more, they make a ton of money off YouTube and this is not true.

People make videos for fun but doesnt it make it even funner if you actually earn money for sharing your content to everyone? Making videos is fun and when you get money for it, its just an extra push for you to keep making more and more videos.

For me, youtbe give us opportunity to share quality and original video to users across the globe. Making money on youtube is a plus. The most important is we upload original videos.

I honestly would not mind at all if YouTube were to disable the money making side of things on the site, remove all ads and user given revenue. I'm on the side of YouTube being all about fun, community, and a learning environment.

Those who need or want to make money can easily make more with an actual job compared to making YouTube videos as Google pays quite low for it's views these days...

I don't think think that I could find a 'real job' that would pay me $300K a year.
Maybe you're not looking hard enough? There are always better paying jobs out there, most just don't look enough or in the correct places. I'm under the mindset that there is always something better out there, you just have to find it. :up2:

There is so much hypocrisy in these threads. Everyone saying you should only do YouTube "for fun" and that you shouldn't care about the numbers is fine and dandy, but it is invariably those same people who are the first to complain that their channels aren't growing, that no-one is watching their videos.....

YouTube isn't complicated, but if your goal is to actually grow a channel (and I guess, by definition, that's the case for 95% of people on these forums), then guess what? It's not all sunshine and rainbows. It is actually hard work. You don't have to do it for the money to be successful, but I'm a firm believer that you have to treat it like a business. The guy doing it "for fun" will find plenty of excuses not to upload a video (too tired, feeling sad, basketball on TV, party to go to), whereas the guy who treats it like a business has discipline, is goal-oriented and understands that sometimes you just have to suck it up and get on with it. That's not to say he's not having fun. These types of people are competitive and actually get enjoyment from overcoming challenges and reaching their goals.

A good analogy is people's jobs. Even the person with a "dream" job (let's say fighter pilot) isn't having fun 100% of the time and he certainly had to put in a lot of work to get the job. If he had just done the fun bit (the flying) and neglected the hard bit (ground school, exams, getting and staying fit), then he would never have got the job in the first place.

Yep, It's all about making those fat stacks.

On a side note, There's no reason why you shouldn't make videos for money. I mean what's wrong with having a hobby that pays ? Last time I checked youtube is an entertainment website, People go there to entertain themselves, Youtubers are entertainers, If you're saying they shouldn't make money, Then why should actors make money ? Why should comedians make money ? Plus looking at the economy, The world is ******, College ? You kidding ? How many people graduated college and made enough money afterwards ?.. Yea, Not a lot.

Not hating or anything, But the youtubers that actually do it for the money, Deserve the money, They make us laugh and smile. And it's not like you're paying to watch them.[DOUBLEPOST=1411382260,1411381669][/DOUBLEPOST]
