People adding you as a contact?

Ok so this might seem silly but why do I receive a lot of notifications on youtube saying that someone adds me as a contact. I could understand if I knew the person or have interacted with them in the past...but then I never see or hear from them. What is the purpose for it other than the obvious contact info. Why are people adding me?

I find it is a commonly used form of spam from aspiring music artists. They seem to be the absolute scum of YT, always spamming contact requests and copypasta comments on popular videos. I always mark as spam and hope that one day enough spam flags will get their channel shutdown.

I almost always ignore them especially from genres I could care less about (IE hip hop)

I get this a LOT too, probably so you wonder hmm who is this? And so check their channel

I normally accept them as a contact, never watch any of their stuff and then spam them with my videos. I highly doubt they ever watch it but it's nice to give them a taste of their own medicine.

Contacts/Friends never serve(d) any purpose, it was just for numbers on a channel, now you can't even see that. I guess it's just for if you want to get some Spam and your grocery store is closed.
