PC Recording

I use fraps and dxtory both, Dxtory has better audio quality. I have a video comparing them both side by side on my channel in minecraft.

Keep in mind tho that these software record rather differently or may record in similar way if they setup to do so.
Fraps, is rumoured to work by injecting code, thus what it really does is that it stops the game, saves a frame, let it do one more, save again... and so on and so on. So the file size is understandable, since it doesn't really compress anything it just dumps out the video as much as it can to give you a good FPS. I dont know if the newer FRAPS does it but the old one did a locking to the FPS you set, so if your game runs normally at 60FPS ( lets say you have V-Sync on ) and no more, but it's really steady, then you run FRAPS and it will lock your FPS to what you set, so if you set 25 FPS, it'll pull down your ingame FPS close or exactly to that making you think it's lagging while its not. Try recoding with 60 FPS just for a test to see if it makes any difference. It will, the video file will be massive in size :D

Other recorders tend to call another method commonly ( or most of the time ) overlay, while they usually call FRAPS's method as "game view", if I remember correctly XSplit just calls it 'Add a Game'. So anyway the overlay method records your whole screen ( but it may not work in fullscreen at all ) bearing an advantage that it doesn't block your game at all making it possible to render as fast as it can, and the recording software doing the same. This of course is risky since you may get a lag in the recorded video, because the recorder is unable to keep up with the game, but with the right settings it can work flawlessly. I recommend checking out FFSplit, its free it's easy to use and in my opinion gives the best performance quality ratio ( while the files are compressed real time, so 15 mintues of 720p 30 FSP game play is about 300-400 Mb, giving you a moderate quality, not top notch, but still pretty good ).
